Hubbard was making a record for a |

that he had found his right place.
McCoy is county attorney of Stevens

Many Other Real Bargains
In spite of all the condemnation that j
has been poured on the heads of the j
southerner for his lynching of negroes, j
the north occasionally gives evidence I
that it is as blood thirsty as the south '
when the same provocation hits it. ■
The rlotB and blood shed at Spring-
Held are enough to make anyone
ashamed of humanity. With all our
teaching1 and believing that we are
civilized, it is humiliating' to drop |
back to savagery with the first scent
of blood. It is the spirit of the time— !
the current that carries away to de-
duction.

Why Bryan is sometimes called
"The Boy Orator of the Platte" is a
mystery to some. We have come to
the conclusion that it is because his
speeches resemble the l'latte river in
that they are seven hundred miles
long, often dry and full of qu'ck-sand,
and he is about six inches deep at the
head, and seven miles wide at the
mouth, Cosmos Pioneer.

A Shameless Demand For
Dollars
Can anyone Imagine James Buchau-
an or Stephen A. Douglas or John C,
Breckenridge or General Met 'lellan or
Horatio Seymour or General Ban-
cock, or any other democratic candi-
date for the presidency save and ex-
cept William Jennings Bryan, de-
manding money from the farmers of
the United States in order to put him
in the White House?
Isn't It a pitiable spectacle?
Not only does Mr. Bryan, with the
concurrence of his Indiana associate
on the ticket, solicit contributions
from $T> upward, hut he has evidently
made a careful compulation of the
number of farmers who are uble to
"pay, pay, pay"
Just listen to him:
"There are hundreds of thousands
of farmers who are abundantly able to
contribute to the campaign fund.
There are thousands who could give
$100 apiece without feeling it There
are tens of thousands who could give
•*>0 apiece without sacrificing any-
thing, and still more who could give
•28, $10, $.* ."
Verily, all standards of dignity In
public life and politics have iteen
thrown to the winds when we have
comedown to this. "Who will be the
first to respond?" asks Mr Bryan. It
is like the voice of an auctioneer ask-
ing for bids. "Money talks," says
the cynic. "Monry Is needed to civet
me and Kern," raya Mr. Bryan, the
denouncer of money power in politics,
"and I want farmers of the country to
furnish it." So anxious are Messrs.
Bryan and Kern to have money and
to have it now that (tending the organ-
I i/.ation of the national committee, "we
will ask the Commoner to call for sub-
scriptions to the farmers' fund."
There Is a real I v comical touch to thla.
"Ask the Commoner"forsooth! Why,
the Commoner Is Mr. Bryan's news-
paper. He Is the Commom r
Mr. Bryan Is certainly a friend of
the people in one sense. H ssntn to
get ti eir money und he evidently be-
lieves they have lots of It left, not-
withstanding their suffering at the
hands of the great predatory corpor-
ations he talks so much about.—New
York Sun.
