Struck Gas
The Well on the Poole
Farm Gives Strong
Showing.
A flow of gas was struck this
morning on the Poole farm by
the Hobart Oil 4 Gas Company
at their new well. At a depth of
215 feet ihe gas gushed out of
the 10 inoh pipe and burned a
blaze about 12 feet high. The
light bed gas was extinguished
and the well will be sunk deeper.
The indications are good for a
big strike.

Appear To Be Getting
Active Around
Hobart.
A few weeks ago W. C. Brady
had a horse Btolen which was re-
covered at Mountain View. Tues-
day night Mr. J. P. Burford who
lives three miles northwest of
town had a valuable mare stolen.
The thieves were very bold about
it, driving her down from the
field then catching her near the
house. The mare is 6 years old,
bay iu color, weighs about 1000
pounds, blotch brand on thigh,
cut on left front foot and one
round shoe without calks. The
thieves left no clue.

In the spring the young
man's fancy lightly turns
to thoughts of duds.
For new clothes are quite
essential with the
opening of the buds.
THE above gem of poesy is
from the pen of the great
poet Q.Buncombe Smiley
whose entire time has
been secured by us at enormous
expense to write poems about
our line of new spring clothes.
There may be two opinions as
to the literary merit of the
poem, but the intrinsic good'
ness of these new wearables
which are now coming in
is so apparent that folks who
see them are unanimous in
saying with us:
"That they outshine anything
ever brought to Hobart as the
sun outshines the stars."

The accompanying illustration represents one of the styles, and
comes as near as white paper and black ink can in telling you

beauty. We'll be more than pleased to show you. & * &
The Eagle Store
S££l PfTEffS SHOES.
Snyder. Okla.,
Mar. 19, 1906.
Editor Chief,
Hobart, Oklahoma.
Dear Sir:—I want to say that
that the Democratic Central
Committee did the best days
work for the success of the party
that has been done for some time.
It has knocked the independent
movement sky-high. There is a
faint hope for them and that is
that, the democrats will call an
early primary when everybody
will be busy, or certain poli-
ticians will bring out candidates
in certain parts of the county to
weaken strong candidates, but
that is a forlorn hope. If there
has been any mistakes in the
past I believe that the Democrat-
ic party is big enough to correct
them this year, and we will have
our old time majority this fall. I
believe in political parties and
when those parties give the peo-
ple a fair chance to nominate
candidates, voters will stand by
by their parties. If the politicians
will drop self interest and look
only to the success of the party
we will have a ticket that will be
invincible. It would be foolisn-
ness to try to beat a representa-
tive ticket, backed by such fear-
less papers as the Chief, Kiowa
County Democrat and Mt. View
Progress. I want to say, in con
elusion, that the democratic vot-
ers in this part are well satisfied
and intend to go to the polls and
vote. H. H. Stallard.
Our Merchants.
The displays m«*de in *11 our
merchants' windows are excep-
tionally fine. The class of goods
carried in Hobart is as high as
any city in the country. Our
people are prosperous and being
made up of the best people from
all the old states, demand the
very best of everything. Our
merchants being enterprising
and up to date carry stocks to
satisfy this demand. It is well
worth a trip through our busi-
section to look at the splendid
and fashionable displays in all
the show windows. Take a look.
J. P. Hughes, who has been in
the city several days, looking
after hia property interests, left
for his home in Kansas City,
