Haileyville, Oklahoma
Is What the Knockers are Doing—Pointers for
Prospectors and Investors.
No less than a dozen people j
from different localities have
asked the New State for informa- j
tion about the contemplated re '
moval of the Rock Island divis |
ion point from Haileyville. The!
fake story was printed in a re .
cent Oklahoman, and hail its!
hirth in Wilburton. For tli« J
past five years the same old
has been going the rounds. Why i
these fake stories are sent in as
legitimate news we are at a loss
to know. Maybe the pipe dream
ers are next to the railroad com-!
pany's business, or, what is more
probable, envy Haileyville and
its bright future. The publica-
tion of such stories is a knock at
ihe town, and it is some trouble
to contradict them.
A sixteen hour law enacted by
the Oklahoma legislature pre
eludes even a possibility of the
removal of the Rock Island
freight division from Haileyville
to Wilburton. Haileyville is
midway between Boonville di-
vision on the east and Shawnee
division on the west. To remove
all these divisions into the wil
derness at one fell swoop would
be something too fierce to con-
template.
It is no secret that five addi-
tional stalls will be immediately
added to the round house here.
As for track room, the Hailey-
ville yards are the second largest
in the southwest, and there is
ample room for more tracks.
Haileyville is also both passen-
ger and freight division point of
the Ardmore branch of the Kock
Island
Another branch road will be
built from this point in a north-
westerly direction to intersect a
short line constructed by the old
Choctaw railroad several years

ago. Its division point will nat-
urally be Haileyville.
To construct the large yards
here cost the railroad company
an immense amount of money.
The building of a large dam at
Haileyville reservoir, or Dow
lake, and installing a standiiipe
and system of waterworks added
many thousands of dollars more
to this heavy expenditure. So it
must seem to a man up a tree
that the Rock Island railroad
company will not be in a hurry
to tear up and move.
It is a matter of history how
Haileyville was made a perma-
nent freight division. When this
railroad was in its infancy, and
was known as the Choctaw, Ok
lahoma iSt Gulf, South McAlester
was headquarters and division
point. The railroad company
was asked by the city to either
make South McAlester a perma-
nent division point or move, and
it moved. Negotiations were
opened with Hartshorne, but a
deal at that point was not con
sumated. Dr. L). M. Halley then
gave the railroad company per
mission to build its yards here.
This transpired seven years ago,
and they are still here—hence
Haileyville.
And today Haileyville is tin
best town of its size in the United
States. Keep your eve on its
growth and listen not to the pipe
dreamer's wail.
Following in the wake of a
wave of prosperty that is coming
in less than two years Hailey-
ville will have more railroads
raidiating from its central divis-
ion, factories, waterworks, street
cars running up Main street,
more activity in the coal mining
J industry, the segregated coal
| lands will lie occupied by truck
farmers, and business in all lines
I will fairly bum. Let the knock
I ers knock and keep oil boosting!
