sented at Memphis.
Two train loads of the old Con
federates passed through here
Monday night en route to Mem
phi? to participate in the Reun
ion at that place. There was 12
cars with one train and 7 with
t le other. They had to pick up
an extra coach hero. ()ne train
was accompanied by the Gov-
ernor.
Each coach was filled to over
flowing, and nodouht there wasi
several hard battles fought while |
enroute and many a story told
that brought back to memory ;
> tin'days of their struggles dur-
ing the years of the civil war.
From a Scientific Standpoint.
The medical fraternity are of
the opinion that if they had had
the making of man that they
could have improved considera-
bly upon his runninggears by
reducing the number of parts. 1

stance. But if the tonsils are in-
cubators it would not be just to
remove them from women.
8,000,000 Acres Opened.
President Taft has issued a
proclamation providing for the
opening up to settlement and en-
try of about 440,000 of land in
the Flathead, Montana; 20'"'.000
in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and
between 50,000 and 100,000 in
the Spokane, Wash., reservation.
Dr. J. S. Scoville Dead.
Dr. J. S. Scoville, one of
Hartshorne's oldest citizens,
died at that place Wednesday of
last week.
TAXES.
All taxes are due on or before
June 15th, at the Bank of
Haileyville.
Mrs. G. W. Kernell sold out j
her stock of millinery goods at
Wewoka and returned home:
Tuesday accompanied by her j
daughters, Mrs. J. M. Watson
and Miss Mabel, who have been ■
visiting her the past two weeks.
Miss Rubie Lasater, on ac-
count of illness, returned home
yesterday from the state normal
at Edmond where she expected
to attend this summer. She lias
decided to attend the county nor-
mal at McAlester.
