VOLUME 13, NUMBER30
HOLLIS, HARMON COUNTY, OKLAHOMA, THURSDAY, MARCH 23,1916.

U
One of the fastest growing-
institutions in the tovyn of Hol-
lis, is the firm of Gardner &
I ong. Two years ago the seven-
th of this month E. L. Gardner
purchased the Bankrupt stock
of W. B. Groves & Co. Later on
Mr. J. C. Long bought half in-
terest with Mr. Gardner and
the stock of goods was moved
to the building which they now
occupy. To say this firm has
been successful is readily recog-
nized when you see the host of
regular customers that they
have.
About the middle of next
month they will open up a first
class stock of goods at Gould,
where they will carry everything
that you could want in the way
of dry goods.
There are three things that
are very essential in any kind
nf *ner)chandi?se business, viz:
Good quality of goods, reason-
able price that you put on them
end square dealing with the
public, which three things this
firm has done.
Another thing that has con-
fribu+ed far toward, the success ,
of this firm is. the- fact that |
they have been and are tree j
users of printer's ink. Hauhy!
a week pases that they havn'tj
had p message in one of the,
••ipers in Hollis tellr- the peo-
ple of the many vamps that j
could be found at th v store,
and the people have ahvays
found them to do just what they
advertised. j
They now have a stocK ox
o-oods that would be a credit
to a town of'*10.000 people. They
are all new and up-to-the-min-
ute in both style and quality.
Here is wishing these gen-
tlemen greater success in their
venture. at Gould, and may their
"business at both places prosper
in the future.

ill05 BUSHELS OF
KAFFIR 10 THE ACRE
Mr. G. V. Walls, who cultivat-
ed six acres of Kaffir last year
under demonstration, recently
threshed the grain and the
yield was one hundreed and five
bushels to the acre.
The reason for this yield is
due to the fact that the land
was broke early and the crop
cultivated with the season.
There was other Kaflir culti-
vated ri^ht by the side of this
six acre plat that only yielded
50 bushels to the acre.
One of the best features
about this patch of ground on
which this Kaffir was raised is
that there has not been a time
during the past summer, fall
and winter that there wasn't
moisturvs enough to bring
up any kind of seed that you
might chose to plant.
This patch of ground was
broken early about seven inches
deep, harrowed once before plant
ing. After the plant had got-
ten up it was ham>wid three
times and plowed one time with
a cultivator, and an orchard
j cultivator run over it three times
The above demonstrates that
it nays to prepare your land
early and to prepare it good.
The flat breaking is the only
way. provide! you do it early.
There was not, a lister in the
nfttch mentioned above at all,
and after the cr.'lv breaking,
[ (hen cultivate with the seasons
and you get greater results.
