IN THRIFT STAMPS
There are 15 ads on this page, which represent 15 of
our progressive merchants and business men, and these
ads will appear each week for 15 weeks. Each week one
of the ads will contain a word that will be "misspelled,"
which we will select. The party finding the word, and
clipping the ad and taking it to the place of business
which it is advertising first, gets the Thrift Stamps, di-
vided as follows: 4 to the person residing in the town of
Hollis, and 4 to the person residing in the country
or any other town in Harmon County, but you must go
in person and present the word.
The word which we will select will be sealed in an en-
velope with, an order for the Stamps, and the word you
claim is "misspelled" must correspond with the word in
the sealed envelope.
No man carrying one of these ads will be allowed to
contest for the money. The names of the winners will
appear here each week.

men engaged in the Oil
and Gas business.

There is perhaps not in the whole of Harmon County
a man better and more favorably known, than W. C.
Pendergraft.
He pioneered here when Harmon County was not
even conceived in the minds of thfe most optomistic citizens,
of the then imperial Greer, and no man has spent more
hours, in both the scorching winds and blinding blizzard's
of this section of the state, in the past fifteen years, for a
night or a day, or even a meal at home on time, has been
a pleasure entirely foreign to the life of this splendid doc-
tor, as he is better known in his prof ession as an M. D.
than in any other capacity, and there is scarcely a home
within twenty miles of Hollis where Dr. Pendergraft has
not been a welcome visitor when dread disease has made its
unwelcome appearances, and the success that has attended
his efforts has built up for him an enviable reputation, that
has only increased with his years of usefulness, and it is
really strange how he could find time to mix up in the many
business enterprises with which he has seen fit to identify
himself.
Not satisfied with being one of the leaders in his pro-
fession, he has found time to be banker, to farm by proxy,
and is even now trying to put John D. on the Poor and In-
sane fund of his county by gettig control of the oil business
in Texas. There is even another secret in his life which he
will only admit when cornered with, proof, and that is he
was actually unfortunate enough to be elected to the legis-
lature in Oklahoma, but his many friends are charitable
and never accuse him of it.
His partner in the oil business in Hollis is Louis May-
tor, as he is better known in his profession as an M. D. .
the profits with the doctor, which shows conclusively, the
working propensities of Louis, and his utter indifference to
money, for he has made so much in a skin-game he used to
run—a barber shop—that he is only working now to be pa-
triotic, and will no doubt retire after the war, if his cus-
tomers will allow him to do so, as he is rendering such sat-
isfactory service in his business that there appears no
chance for him to find a quitting place.
On account of the terms established by the wholesalers
^nd the margin of profit set by the Fuel Administrator we
are forced to place our coal business strictly on a cash basis.
We will however fulfill all contracts with those who wo have
previously agreed to sell on time.
