studying it. Ik will be one of
three things: a Consolidated or
Union Graded School, or build a
fourth room to the three we
have. Why can't Oklahoma pay
half of the bill for building a
good school house at Teacross,
the same as at other places?
The boys played a good game
of basketball in Hullis Saturday.
Their opponents were a picked
bunch of school teachers, all good
players. The score was 27 to 10
in favor of Teacross, but the
score might have been different
if the teachers had practiced to
gether before the game. Team
work is the strong point of the
Teacross team, and has won sev
hral games for them.
The literary Friday night,
judging from the size of the
crowd, was a big success. Sev
eral surrounding communities

crowds keep increasing in num
bers as they have during the
past month—Teacross will need

Independence school is pro
gressing nicely under the able
management of Prof. M. O.
Counts, assisted by Miss Ruby
Johnson and Miss Lela Norris.
School has been in session two
months and the enrollment has
reached one hundred. We are
doing two years high school
Work.
A Literary Society has been
organised with Robert Redgers,
president, Lillie Chappell vice
president and Steedman Hodge,
secretary.
Athletics, or rather physical
training is one of the important
features of our school this year
and the patrons and school boye
will meet at the school house
Saturday and will spend the day
in working on the play grounds.
The Independence Base Ball
boys are contemplating setting

Given a Surprise Party
Last Tuesday was Mrs. EL L.
Gardner's birthday, and in the
afternoon she was called to the
telephone and told to come
borne, that some of her relatives
were there. Upon arriving
home, she found a number of
her neighbors and friends
gathered together as a surprise
for her. They presented hei
with many gifts. Those pre-
sent were:

A Debating Society baa been
organized by the pupils in Mr.
Royal's room. The offlcere are:
Clifford Wolfe, president; Alvin
Edmiaston, vice president; Mry-
tle Parr. They meet every Fri-
day afternoon after recess.
Their first program waa given
last Friday afternoon in the
presence of a few visitors. A1
though it was short,, it was all
interesting and would have done
credit to on older sooiety. We
wish to compliment them for the
progress they are making in
this wark.
The following were visitors at
Red Top last week: Mr. and
Mrs. Stotts, Mrs. Goad, Mrs.
Calloway. Mrs. Jones, Mrs. But
ler, Ruth Stotts. Lizzie Pitman,
Alvin and Grady Henson and
Florence and Agnes Butler.
Earnest Hawkins was enrolled
in sehool last week.
The little son of Mr. and Mra.
Albert Taylor has been quite
sick with pneumonia but is re
ported to be improving.
Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Riley of
Hollis visited their daughter,
Mrs. Albert Taylor, last Thurs
day.
R. F. Graves and family visit
ed Joe Graves and family last
Friday.
Winnie and Otha Niyena were
the guests of li ma Wolfe Sun
day night.
Mrs. Parr and family have
moved near Bethel. Their many
friends in this community re
gret to lose them, and hope they
will sometime have the pleasure
of being their neighbors again.
Mr. Burns has moved on the
J. C. Terry place. Mr. Henson
who lived there last year will
start for New Mexico soon.

its regular meeting Friday after

School. All mothers and others
