j Hook in a letter to President Taft denies
How many farmers in Kiowa county
will ever be benetitted one penny by the
district school of ngriouitUrft at Helena?
-
If you expect to gather very many
ems these cold days it will be necessary
that you give special attention., to the
care of your chickens.
The question now asked is what kind
of a Democrat are you? A Wilson, Har-
mon or a Mryan Demecrat? In fact
whom are you worshiping?
the charge and asserts that his son was
merely a |«\v. student and a law clerk at
that lilH£. His statements are Corrobo-
rated by the chief attorney for the rail-
roads, Judge Hook may or may not be
a proper person to till the vacancy, but
whether he is or not, such falsehoods are
unpardonable. Let the whole, truth be
known, then the people will be in a po-
sition to render an unbiased verdict.
The way the various school towus of
the state are making preparations to
tight the Akin bill makes one believe
that there is something wrong some-
where.
How many farmers in Kiowa county
ever attend either the short course or
the long course, or any other course at
the district agriculture school at
Helena?
An Illinois court has ruled that a
bulldog is a deadly weapon. Any per
son carrying a bulldog concealed on his
person will be amenable to the statutes
made and provided.
To get closer home. How man) peo-
ple in Comanche county attend the dis-
trict agriculture school that is located
at Lawton? Whore are the bor.etits to
be derived from these schools? How
much do they cost?
If Washington really thinks the elec-
tion of a democrat to congress in the
Seventh Kansas district was "a vote
against Taft," then Washington is an
ass. The republican candidate in the
contest whs an avowed "progressive,"
and supported by Stubbs, Bristow and
the other insurgent leaders. The resuj^
was simply a repetition of what took
place some weeks ago in the Second
Kansas district. In both cases the re-
publican "progressive" nominee was
snowed under simply beoanse—not that
there was an increase in the usual dem-
ocratic vote, for there wasn't- but be-
cause many conservative republicans in
every county and p'ecinct stayed at
home, declining to vote-for the radical
platform on which the party's nominees
stood. In so far as the result points to
President Taft in any way, it is an in-
dorsement of him and his policies.- K.

and have a judicial knowledge. In
every appointment that he has so far
made he had these things uppermost in
his mind
Take for instance his elevation of

day. Justice Hughes' appointment
stands out as a shining example of what
President Taft has in his mind, His
elevation was pleasing to all people, for

The}4cry ^gainst Judge Hook is be-
causoaof a decision in the two cent fare
case that went up to his court from this
and other states. Uf course no man
that had not all the facts before him, as
did Judge ^Hook and his associates,
would have a right to pass upon their
decision. |It might not and did not
meet our personal approval, not that the
facts did not justify the findings ibat
were made.jbut had his opinion been
otherwise,Jand that court sustained the
two cent fare then we oould Lave
traveled at a^less rate from ono plac.i to
another in the state. That kind oi an
opinion would have pleased us. but
would it have been in accord wii.h ihe
facts,and^the law in the case.
Only this week our own Supreme
Court ^has seen tit to hand down a
similar ^opinion, at least similar in so !
far as the result is concerned.
The State Corporation Commission
some time ago made an order reducing
the rate to bej^charged by the various
telegraph companies of the state, tbey
appealed from the decision of the Cor-
poration Commission to the Supreme
Court Jand the matter wa9 finally
determined by that court only this
week.
The decision of the Supreme Court
was that the enforcement of the ordar
made by the Corporation Commission
of this state as against the telegraph
company would be confiscatory, that
they would not be getting a fair revenue
from the amount of money invested.
The result in this case is the same as
was the decision ol Judge Hook and
others in the railroad rate ease. „
If Judge Hook's decision was so
erroneous, then why nut raise Cain be-
cause of the action of our own Supreme
C urt, in refusing to uphold the order
of the Corporation Commission?
