ELECTION
Constitution carries
in the state by about
100.000. Prohibition is
a cinch by about 20.000
Haskill and the entire
democratic state ticket
elected by big majority
Four of the five demo-
cratic congressmen are
elected, McGuire. repub-
lican, elected by a small
majority. Democr a t s
elect 38 out of 44 state
senators and 78 out of
119 representatives.
In Alfalfa county the
democrats elect two
commissioners by good
majorities and the offi-
cial count may elect
Knadler. Murley and
Talbott with a possibil-
ity of others.
A Cowardly Campaign.
Those circular letters distrib
uted by L. A. Baiter on elect-
ion day show to what depths
some people will stoop, and if
Salter had been a man or even
a good citizen he would have at
least made some inquiry before
distributing literature that was
attacking citixens of his home.
I still reiterate the statement
1 made when this circular was
Srst shown me *'That the men
who put out this letter were
liars and assassins without any
principle or manhood, and any
man who tried to make capital
out of it to defeat Wismiller
would not hesitate to murder a
man for a dollar." A character
assassin is more to be feared
and despised than any other
class of criminal. The mind
that is ever willing to think
wrong of some one else is liable
to lead its owner to cora nit a
criminal act at any timi. It is.
common talk in Carmen thit
this man Salter is wrong under
his hat, the place that should
have brains is filled with gall,
and his actions since he has
been in Carmen show him to be
a^moral pirate and very few of
Carmen's citizens will have any
thing to do with him only when
they wanted him to do their
dirty work. The people who
sent those circulars here on
election day knew their man
and knew he wts devoid of prin
ciple.
To the pimple headed youth
who signed the statement mak-
ing the charges we will say It
was a surprise, beoause the
kid knew the letter was a hoax
written by a dirty scoundrel
who mailed on the train at
Yewed and these m n who are
so anxiou4 to start something
had better attend to their own
business. Tae editor of the
News remembsrs his frienl*
and enemies.
Now so far as Carmen is con
cerned she has said by her vote
that she is in favor of extravi-
gant expenditures in the high
school, that they are opposed
to home men if he happens to
be a democrat. Take the vote
in Carmen between Willder and
Murley. Wilder ia a mighty
good fellow, but with no prop
erty interests here except
what he can put in a trunk, and
Murley has two farms south-
west of Carmen is interested in
a bunch of cattle over in old
Woods county, has interests
in northern Alfalfa couuty, ti**
a hill I interest in a t ulcher
shop and several oilier invent
ments in Carmen, Wilder got 234
votes and Morley 189.
Go to Devereaux A Cleals

isfaction. Ask your neighbor

—On Monday several little
girls who are in the same class-
es with Edith Reeg assembled
at her home southeast of Car-
men and helped her celebrate
her birthday. The little folks
all report a splendid time and
that little Miss Edith is a royal
hostess.
—On September 16 about 75
of Dan Westfallt frieuds and
neighbors dropped iu on him
and proceeded to help him cele-
brate bis birthday. It was 14
years to the day teat he had
taken his homestead. They all
had a vary pleasant time and
Dan says he wishes that they
had commenced these celebrat-
ions years ago. These little
mettings of friends and neigh-
bors are what makes life pleas-
ant and the comunity would be
mnch better were there more
as people get better acquainted
with each otqerand enjoy these
social gatherings. Hhre's hop
ing that Dan has a lot more
birthday celebrations and lives
to be four score and ten.
The Thomas drill sold by Div
ereaux A Cleal is the bast drill
on the market.
