HOLES IN THE POCKET
"Look at that hole in the bottom of my pock-
et; no telling how much money I have lost," la-
mented a young man the other day. #
After he had gone an old man said: "I'll bet
he has lost more money out of the hole at the Top
of his pocket than he ever lost from that little hole
at the bottom." He spoke with the wisdom of
age. Most of the money goes out of the big hole
at the top Of the pocket and we don't worry, but
'we raise a great rumpus if even a dime drops out
through the hole at the bottom. Moralt-Do away
with the pocket as a money purse by starting an
account at our bank.

A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT
Alvin Black Loses Both Legs
Alvin Black, son of Supt. S. W.
Black of the Panhandle Auricul
tural Institute at Goodwell in
alighting from a moving freight
train at that place Thursday night
struck the mail craue and was
thrown under the cars, the wheels
passing over both legs below the
knees He was taken immediately
to the hospital at Dalhart where
both legs were amputated, hot his
recovery is doubtful as examina
tion showed that his skull was
badly fractured also.
He and a party of young friends
had been to Guymon to some' so-
cial function and deoiced not to
wait for the passenger train but
boarded the freight aud jumped off
as it passed Goodwell, and per-
haps all would have been well if he
had not come in contact with the
mail crane.
Alvin Graduated at the P. A. I.
last year and was a bright, young
man with a promising future aud
his friends here, and the many
friends of his father iu this county
will be grieved to hear of the al-
most fatal accident.

Accordiug to the rodorts from
Texas county, and the personnal
of the next legislature as given by
the Oklahoman of Sunday, W. L.
Roberts is our next representative
and has received his certificate of
election. James Weiser of Good-
well. his republican opponent, car-
ried this county over him^by the
handsome majority of 176, aud
telephone reports from Texas
county at first indicated that he
had carried that county over Rob-
by about two to one, but we
!rt£

gutss not. Some people are in-
clined to think that Roberts must
have run like a scared wolf in
Texas county—after the polls were
closed. We don't know what
Weiser thinks about it or will try
to do about it, but have an idea
that there will be another violent
attempt to remove the election
board of that county. Better try
a quo warranto suit and let the
election board go haug—there are
uo more elections anyway for two
years.
