At no time in the life of the

to tite world in general and our

We all hoijeand pray tnat the!
war may end and that tiro world;
may return to soma semblance;
of sanity and commercial stabili-

only an incense longing for some-

We are pinning our faith to
the ability of our country to keep

but again there is no certainty—
only un abiding faith that may
be l'ouiided upon the phanta-

We are looking and ionging
for the day to ^ mo when men
will cease to butcher one another
and return to the more human-

longing results only in more look-

peace.

Loss By Fire
Mr. J E. Cheek who last sum-
mer purchased the Ed Derrick
farm, south east of Hollis while
enroutefrom Belleville, Ark, last
week had the misfortune to loose
his on tire car load of stuif by fire
Mr. Cheek had chartered a car
and had loaded all his household
goods in hiding a year's supplies
■of groceries, all his farm impli-
ments and four good mu'es, two
wagons, and other things into
the-car. on reaching Hobart 11
w*s discovered that the car was
on fire and before anything
could be done all was lost,
Unfortunately for Mr. Cheek,
when loadjtfg his goods and stock
in order to get a lower freight
rate he failea to place full value
on his stuff aud should he suc-
ceed in getting all for which he
had valued his goods, he will
still be several hundred dollars
looser.
Christmas passed off quietly
with everybody in a good humor.
Of i our-e there was a few young
sprouts who seemed to think
that it wouldn't be Christmas un-
less they "got funny." Let us
say to the credit of our young
men that the vast, majority of
them spent a sane Christmas.
Miss Willie Hazlewood visited
in Altus one day this week.
