Dr. W. H. Morgan, of Nashville,
Tennessee, has been appointed by
'he President a member of the
Board of Indian Commissioners.
The Doctor, though not a Demo
crat, is a Christian gentleman, ami
well qualified to fill the demands
of his office. He is at present Dean
of the Dental Department of the
Vanderbilt University.
Methodist Church New Hope Sem-
inary. The Methodist Church has
for thirty years made annual ap-
propriations to this school aggre-
gating near $50,000. We believe
our Choctaw friends will, in course
of time, see that this action upon
the part of their Council was un-
wise.
In next number of this paper we
hope to give reduced club rates
with some of our leading Church
weeklies.

far forget themselves as to be guilty
of conduct unbecoming a servant
of Jesus, whose birth we celebrate.

The Bev. Lewis Stuckey, of Mon-
tague county, Texas, has been em-
ployed by the presiding elder o
Paul's Valley District, to fill Beef
Creek Circuit. He is said to be a
promising young man, and is well
received on the circuit.
The Rev. J. C. Powell, President
of Pierce Institute, is in poor health,
though still able to work. The
school is said to be in fine con-
dition—more than sixty pupils en-
rolled. So writes the P. E.
The Choctaw Council at its last
session, in compliance with the
recommendation of Gov. McCur

annulling all contracts made with

A Visit to Arkansas.
Seven years ago last August, in
obedience to Episcopal authority,
we left the Arkansas Conference to
do service in the red man's coun-
try. During these years we have
often longed to look again into the
faces of those dear friends left be-
hind, but this pleasure was denied
us until recently. On the 23d of
last month we boarded the train at
Muskogee, and after sixty h uirs of
travel, accompanied with numerous
delays and one collision, we landed
at Morrillton, where the Arkansas
Conference was holding its forty-
ninth annual session. It was a
double pleasure for us to visit Mor-
rillton at this time. Thirteen years
ago our now sainted Bishop Kavan-
augh sent us from Corinth, Missis-
sippi, to Lewiaburgh (now Morrill-
ton) Station, in the Arkansas Con-
ference. For three years we had
the pleasure of serving this people,
and never in life have we met with
truer friends and nobler spirits than
