to assist the administration in per-
forming the great work that has to
be done to win this war that will
carry the Monroe doctrine to every
nation in the world and make all
monopolies pay their just part of the
expense of this war.
President Wilson can proceed with
his work with the assurance that the
great body of the American people
are supporting him regardless of
what partisan politicians, or German
propagandists say. The American
people know the source from which
these attacks come, and know the one
man in the world who is delighted
with every attack made upon Mr.
Wilson, is the German Kaiser.

A candidate for Governor should
have something more convincing to
offer to the voters than criticism of
his leading opponent and attempts to
distort and falsify the plain
language of his opponents platform.
Judge Robertson has told the voter
where he stands on public questions
and his position has been approved by
press and people and studied at-

News from Camp Travis
Caftnp Travis. Tex., June 1. 1918.
The casual visitor to Camp Travis,
who has not lost In this day of mo-
tor cars an Interest in horse flesh,
marvels at the splendid collection of
| horse flesh to be seen about the camp.
I They are in excellent condition, well
I cared for, well ir«In d for the
part, but there is a reason.
| One of the largest remount stations
i in the world is located at Camp Trav-
is. Here every horse and mule used
at the camp Is received, sorted, in-
spected and branded and fattened.
The wild ones are broken and in the
I breaking Camp Travis has gathered
i a choice collection of premier bronch
I busters of the world of the kind that
| is developed In Texas and Oklahoma.
They will ride anything, any time
and hundreds of people visit the Re-
mount to see the wild animals brok-
en to the saddle.
Sick and injured horses are given
far better treatment than the people
in many localities receive. Three
large veterinary hospitals are located
I at the Remount station, with a corps
of seventeen graduated veterinarians
and a staff of seventy-five men as as-
sistants. They have at their com-
mand all the experience, medicine
and instruments the United States
government can afford.
Horses, like men, are trained on
a schedule, the keystone of which is
regularity. They are fed balanced
rations at regular hours and are, giv-
en every attention. In the army, par-
ticularly in those branches of the
service where the horse and mule is
used continually as in the cavalry,
machine gun, etc., the animal comes
hefore the man. After drilling al'
day, or fighting, when the recall has
sounded then the animal gets first
attention, and the man comes next.
After horses or mules have been In-
spected at the remount station and
have developed or given indications
of spavin, blindness or any symptoms
of disease making them unfit for ar-
my service .they are caught, branded
with an "IC", which means inspected
and condemned, and then sold. The
brand is placed on the neck. Army
buyers will not buy in horses brand-
ed in such a manner. Such horses
may be fit for any and every duty de-
manded of them for other purposes,
but Uncle Sam is particular.
Irving A. Taylor of LaKenip has
returned to Ambulance Company 360
after several months special duty at
the Base Hospital. We are mighty
glad to have you back, old boy, and
are going to show you what it is to be
l regular mule skinner—it's nothing
like working in a ward but we prom-
fse not to kill you.
