The scene is at the Oklahoma State Fair where Chitwood and his team often performed. This is most likely at the State Fair Speedway, and probably near the grandstand. Joie Chitwood was not only well known to fairground attendees but was given by Evil Knievel as one of his inspirations. Description

Photograph taken for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. The picture shows various people gathered around a Corvette, C3 model, that is driven by one of Joie Chitwood’s daredevils. The scene is at the Oklahoma State Fair where Chitwood and his team often performed. This is most likely at the State Fair Speedway, and probably near the grandstand. Joie Chitwood was not only well known to fairground attendees but was given by Evil Knievel as one of his inspirations. (Chitwood’s team was of interest to the newspapers because he was also involved in and appeared in multiple movies including films such as Fireball Jungle. Three years after this photo was taken, he coordinated the stunts and appeared in Live and Let Die. His team also performed in an episode of the TV show Chips. In addition, Joie Chitwood had been a successful racecar driver, retiring in 1950. One of his sons went on to set the world record for driving a car on two wheels.)
