CITV WILL GIVE $13700
FOR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT
Committee Must Raise $5000 More
for Project Local Light and
Power Rates to be Lowered
Stillwater city commissioners in
special meeting Friday night decided
to allow $13700 to cover the pur-
chase of lessees' rights on school land
section 16 three miles east of the
city the action of the commission
assurit g the establishment of the pro-
posed Alunicipal airport
Inclusion of the $13700 in the
city's budget came after brig con-
sideration by the commissioner group
It had been decided last Tuesday
night at t re regular meeting of the
conunissioners that the city would be
unable to provide the fund requested
b the aviation committee The fund
then asked included money for im-
proving the field and building a
hangar a total of $18340
Removal of 1 of the filter construc-
tion projeets from the city's budget
was necessary to allow inclusion of
the airport fund The city had plan-
ned to construct two new filters at
the water plant By cutting one from
the budget the airport fund was sub-
stituted Considerable Discussion
Vote on the question of whether to
include the airport fund came after
considerable discussion Friday night
the commissioners voting three to two
to make the filter-airport switch in
the budget Commissioners R C
Lawellin and John 11 Moore voted
against the change Mayor G M
Thompson and Commissioners L E
Thatcher and Ben Choate voting to
make it
"Mr Moore and I believed the ne-
cessity for the filter greater than the
port emergency" Lawellin said "It
must be installed by next summer at
the latest if the city is to be able to
meet its anticipated growth with
proper water supply"
One FiVer to be Built
One additional filter will be in-
stalled at the plant It is believed
by a majority of the eommission that
the city can "get by" with present
facilities until next summer
The plants capacity will be in-
creased about 50 per cent by the ad-
dition of one filter Lawellin says
Additional equipment is needed but
can be constructed after the supple-
mental budget of the city is available
next June -
That the city's valuation will not
exceed $4500000 was expressed
Saturday morning by Lawellin
Unexpected cuts made by the state
eorporation commission lowering ac-7- -
cess ible eValülitIon of priblierservied-
companies have pared money from '
the city's evaluation which had been
expected to materially exceed $4-
500000
"It's going to take close figuring to
include everything we are now plan-
ning on" Lawellin said
Ligbt Rates Reduced
With the airport purchase price
provided the city commissioners
turned to the detail of passing city
ordir41nce No 573 reducing light
and power rates for Stillwater and
vicinity
The ordinance was passed as an
emergency matter the action making
the light and power rate cuts to be
effective at once July bills will be
figured on the new scale Lirht rates -
in the city are reduced from 14 to
12 cents Power rates in the city:
are reduced from 8 to 7-6-5-4 cents -
tie scale being determined by the
amount used Outside the city limits
light rates are cut from 16 to 14!-4
cents with power rates cut from 13
to 9-8-7-6 cents
It is believed the light and power
cut will not materially reduce the
city's income over the previous year
in that more electrictiy likely will be
used because of the lower rate and
the normal growth of the city
Committen Elated
Airport committeemen and citizens
generally were elated with the action
of the commission it was learned in
brief interviews Friday General ap-
probation of the action was heard
More funds will be needed the
city allowance being enough to pur-
chase the land but not to care for
necessary improvements Some me-
thod of raising the needed funds will
be evolved airport committeemen
said Appromately $5000 will be
needed
Funds for the improvement of the
field will not be needed until after
the first of the year however The
city holds options on the section of
land selected but tenants have until
January to care for their crops and
relinquish the leases
It is proposed to sod the landing
field build a hangar and arrange for
proper lighting and designation of
the field
