As the closing day of the Seventieth
Congress draws nearer the usual legislative
jam is occuring and the leaders are trying to
dig out so that the important bills that have
passed one of thr two Houses will have an
opportunity to be enacted into law This
situation arises in every short session of Con
gress and demonstrates the necessity of the
proposed amendment to the Constitution
providing for the abolition of the short session
sometimes called "The Lame Duck Session"
As is usual there were numerous celebra
tions commemorating the birth date of
Abraham Lincoln the principal one being
held at noon at the Lincoln Memorial
At one o'clock on Wednesday afternoon
the Vice-President and the Members of the
Senate marched ov r to the House in solemn
procession with the Sergent at Arms of the
Senate carrying the small cedar box in which

were the returns of the vote of the electors of
the several states for President and VicePies-
'dent of the United 'States Upon their ar-
rival in the House chamber they took their
seats Vice- President Dawes taking the seat
at the right of Speaker Longworth Vice
President Dawes then called the Joint Session
to order and the four tellers consisting of
two members of the House and two members
of the Senate commenced immediately to
open the returns and declare the results Or-
dinarily this is a very digdified and serious
ceremony but on this occasion there was
quite a good deal of hilarity occasioned by
the fact that Senator Shortridge gave the re-
turns of Arizona to Governor Smith when as
a matter of fact Arizona went for Hoover
Another amusing incident was when it fell to
the lot of Hon Charles Gifford Republican
from Massachusetts to read the returns from
that state which went to Governor Smith
And when Senator King Democrat from
Utah read thr returns from Texas it was the
signal for great applause from the Republican
s'cle Out of the total vote of 531 NIr9oover
received 444 and Goverror Smith received S7
for President and Mr Curtis received 444

THE practical value of Ford
simplicity of design is es-
pecially apparent in the fuel
system
The gasoline tank i3 built
i zegral with the cowl and is
unusually sturdy because it
is made of heavy sheet steel
terne plated to prevent rust
or corrosion An additional
factor of strength is the fact
that it is composed of only
two pieces instead of three
or four and is electrically
welded—not soldered
Because of the location of
the tank the entire flow of
gasoline is an e en natural
how—following the natural
law of gravity Ths is the
simpiest and most direct
way of suppbing gasoline to
he carintretor timid vari-
ations in pressure The gaso-
line feed pipe of the new
lord is only 18 inches long
and is easily accessible all
the way
The gasoline pases from
the tank to the varburetor
through a filter or sediment
bulb mounted on the steel
dash 'which separates the
gasoline tank from the
engine
The carburetor is specially
designed and has been built
to delker many

The choke rod on the

also as a regulator of your

hot Ppot manifold insures
complete vaporization of the

As a matter of fact the

is so simple in design anti
so carefully made that it
requires very little service
