It's tornado time again
The time for twisters is starting.
American Red Cross has tips on
what to do.
They advise paying attention to
National Weather Service war-
nings. A tornado watch means
tornadoes may be expected. A
warning means a tornado has been
seen.
Anyone in the path of a twister
should look for shelter. A cellar or
basement is best. If there is none,
go in a steel-framed or cement
building.
In an office building, inside halls
on the bottom floor are safe. In
houses, basements, bathrooms or
closets are safest. Persons can also
take cover under heavy tables or
other furniture. Have windows
open on the side away from the
tornado. Keep away from them,
however.
Trailers should be tied down. Do
not stay in the trailer. In open
areas with no shelter, take cover in
ditches, river beds, etc. Lie face
down. Cover your head with your
arms. Cars are not safe in storms.
