pective Republican senators
shows moderate Hugh Scott a
shoo-in to beat any conservative
attempt to unseat him as Senate
GOP leader, according to a Re-
publican senator.
"I just can’t see—if the worst
or the best happens—that we
won’t go into this thing with a
lot more votes than we went
into it with last time,” said the
senator who asked not to be
named.
Scott beat Tennessee's How-
ard H. Baker Jr. 24 to 19 in last
y ear s leadership contest Baker
and Robert J. Dole of Kansas
both are reported considering a
drive to oust Scott if Pennsylva-
nia's voters, as expected, send
him back to the Senate in No-
vember.
Without naming names, the
source, who backs Scott, said
the Pennsylvanian has nibbled
away at Baker's forces without
losing any of his own, and has
support of more prospective
new GOP senators than the op-
position.

The trouble with girls”

Court Asked
For Dismissal
TULSA AP — Defense at-
torneys for The Rev. Floyd D.
Sutterfield, convicted last week
of first degree rape, asked Tul-
sa district court Wednesday to
reverse the decision because th;
13-year-old alleged victim ac-
mitted testifying falsely during
the trial.
The girl, a ward of the Sand
Springs Home which Sutterfield
served as director at the time
of the alleged attack, told the
court she had sexual intercourse
with Sutterfield several times.
A motion to dismiss another
first degree rape charge still
pending against Sutterfield was
also filed Wednesday.
Sutterfield was convicted of
raping the girl by Dist Court
Judge Robert D. Simms last
week in a non-jury trial.
