The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) is to collect, preserve, and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. The OHS was founded on May 27, 1893, by members of the Territorial Press Association.

Abstract: Although the Western History Collections at the University of Oklahoma has assembled one of the state's largest collections of historic photographs, some Indian cultures remained poorly represented. In this photo essay John Lovett provides a short history of the Sac and Fox and describes the collection of photographs known as the Jerry Whistler Snow Collection which significantly enlarged the tribe's photographic record.
