NO NEWS
READ IT IN THE REGISTER FIRST
Some complaint has been made
we understand that “ there is
no personal news in the paper”
By the way what is news? If
we published all we heard and
knew to be true about the identi-
cal persons who are complaining
we might have fnore “news”
But is it news to say that Mr So
and So won’t pay his debts that
he is a cheat and a 'dead beat?
Does he want us to publish the
fact that he did so and so that
while a prominent church mem-
ber that he is using his religion
to cloak his sins? Is that news?
Is it news to say that Mr XYZ is
too familiar with Mrs ABC etc?
We do not think so but if these
people who are so worried about
the luck of news wish it we will
begin and that right soon It is

Wholesale Markets
The results of the first congressionally authorized
food price inquiry were reported last week The con-
clusion is that “there is no just ground for such high
prices of many products as are demanded of the con-
sumer at this time” The report recommends there is
“urgent need in this country for the organization of
comprehensive marketing machinery which will put r
producing and consuming communities in trading rela-
tions with each other and make' possible sending of per-
ishable products directly from the point of production to
point of use” - -
Municipal Wholesale Markets are

That would eliminate food speculations such as t
were unearthed in Chicago the other day The invest-
igators learned that warehouses were stocked to the
roofs with food stuffs such as sugar rice canned goods
coffee and other non-perishable goods If the commit-
tees go ahead as they should these speculators will be
forced to sell at a reasonable profit or it will be confis-
cated by the government and distributed through munici-
pal wholesale markets It is everyone’s duty to see that
food speculation is stopped When you dQ this you will

conceded by prominent students
of character that if they are
shown a person’s reading matter
that it is not hard to determine
the intellect and character of that
person and those who take no
interest in news only of personal
and sensational nature are not
the prominent reliable people of
a community but the ones who
keep up a constant turmoil of
gossip while their boys and girls
are going to the dogs and furn
ising more material for the lover
of personal sensational news
These kind of people too are the
kind who allow their subscrip-
tions to ge from 6 months 1 to a
year in arrears and then tell the
postmaster or solicitor that they
want the paper stopped because
there is ‘‘no news” The same
man only is sorry he can not
