Stephenson is a young man who
was brought up in Oklahoma and
Texas and for SOMe years worked
as a printer in the mid-west
He obtained a COMMISS1011 dur-
nig the World War and there it
no record that his service was
anything but creditable
Mustered out In 1919 when ta
years old he became a member
of the Ku Klux Klan came to
Evansville Ind and started in
the coal business there
Ile was a candidate for the
Democratic nomination for Con-
gress in 1920 but didn't get far
Ile became a speaker and an or-
ganizer for the Klan in Its first
great drive into IndianA
The next few years are chiefly a
record of his swift rise to power
and riches earned by his organiz-
ing ability his personal menet-
ism the silver tongue by which
he could sway multitudes to cheer-
ing crying emotion
Ile became the Indiana Grand
Dragon or state bead of the Klan
