Photograph taken for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "`STATE TRAFFIC DEATHS 1955 to date, 428; October, 18. 1954 to date, 419; October 9. Three children were near death in University and Crippled Children's hospitals here Friday night after an automobile crash 4 1/2 miles north of Norman killed their parents and grandmother. A spokesman for the hospital said all three underwent surgery Friday afternoon. he said all were in "very critical" condition. The children are Joan Lampley,16; her brother Carl, 10, and sister Arona, 4, All are from Deer Park, Texas. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Carl Lampley, and Mrs. Lampley's mother, Mrs. Matilda Rush of Webb City, were killed when their car ran of the road and crashed into a ravine. Girl Crawls to Road The crash happened on U.S. 77 about 7:30 a.m. but wasn't discovered until a half hour later. Troopers said the 16-year-old girl, although suffering from a skull fracture, broken arm and internal injuries, managed to crawl from the wreckage and flag down a passing motorist. She collapsed a short time later and has not regained consciousness. Troppers said the driver, Lampley, apparently went to sleep and the car veered off the road while traveling at a high rate of speed. The family was in route to Webb City."
