DUNCAN INDIAN TERRITORY MAY 17 1907
NUMBER 19
i
The Ba nner Bombarded
An Arsenal of Grape and Canster Fired Broad-side Into one of
Democracy s Decaying Strongholds
The great heroic indomitable star spangled
Duncan Banner has at last condesended to
take a round about tumble out of Justice but
true to' their nervous and underhanded in-
stinct they refuse to give the article that was
aimed directly at them and the rest of the little
two-by-four (any bodys horn that willjblow 'em)
that now infest the fair southland with their
paid f6r editorials eulogising the rottonest
gang of political buccanneers on the face of
the globe who would advocate anything from
the burning of an untried negro to disfran-
chisement of a disable white men in order to
get their quivering lips encircled around the
ever faithful public teat due credit and in-
stead try to sidetrack it onto the people we
have never made any attacks on the rank and
file of the democratic party for we' know
from personal experience that the great ma-
jority of them will vote their sentiments but
the ungodly hypocritical treacherous fountains
from which they get ? their information are
the ulcers into which we are plunging our
f hypodermic disinfecter the -blinky milk ex
cuses the Banner gave for the illiteracy of
the south is enough to starve the hungry
mind of even a democrat who is in search of
healthy information the sparsely settled
south would'nt that give you an appetite for
a pink pill circular why bless their poor little
swiveled up uninformed soul the most sparsely
settled states in the union are the great north-
wester! states of Wyoming Oregon Idaho
Utah and Nevada' every one republican
states also the undisputed leaders in having
the smallest number of illiterates children
why don’t the banner frankly own up that
the south is writhing under the tyrant heel
of the most souless gang of pirates that ever
contaminated the once free atmosphere of
peerless America but no rimfire politician
with about enough brains to set ten-pins
would withdraw their patronage and the
banner would be occupying their proper
sphere between two cotton rows for lack of
ability to tell the truth strong to create a
demand
The banner seems to think that illiteracy
means' the absence of a college education and
the" fact that the south contains nearly all the
negro population is sufficient excuse for their
large number of illiterate children in the name
of God what is to keep a child labor law and
compulsory school law from having the same
effect on the negro child that it would have
on a white child especially where there is so
many negro children' the white livered demo-
cratic politicians are dead willing for the
money lords of Wall street to help divide up
' the product of the labor of the children of
the south but under the damnable pretence
that an educated negro is a mean one they
keep both white and black out of school The
children of the south produce more annually
than is spent for their education in a century
it is the democratic politicians we are after
and every mealy mouthed little policy saturat-
ed pencil pushing intellectual dwarf that has
not got the moral courage to expose their
underhanded workings to a deluded public
The banner the walking person ification
of democratic hypocracy always catering to
the prejudices of the ignorant why don’t
theytryto defend the democratic party in
their ungodly disfranchisement of the poor
man its not their way of doing business they
know that would be getting too close to their
own political principles Come on sister
banner we have heard you claim that no
nonproperty owner should be allowed to vote
and we defy you to deny' it and then you
have the unparrelled impudence to claim to
Stand for the interests of the working man
that in the face of the awful fact ythat only
19 per cent of the people in this free America
owh their oTra honrese accuse your political
machine of being a contagious carbuncle on
the body poilitic and the banner of being one
of its festering heads spewing forth its
poisonous virus into the minds of the mipds
of the already prejudiced at so much per
spew You know that it is unamerican
treachery to advocate the putting of a price
on the vote of an American citizen yet you
stand for the poll tax and property qualifi-
cation for voters
It seems’ that the idea never penetrated
your armor'plate cranium that the men who
do the work are the only real tax payers if
you would read some of your unmuzzled ex-
changes you might the reflections of some
healthy ideas into that brass knob you are
wearing around in lieu of a head You are a
tax pa er in as much you do a great deal of your
work yourself but after you extract enough
out of the products of your business to pay
you the same for your labor that it would
take to hire it done then all above that is
dividends and that is where all the tax re-
venues and other necessary expences come
from and that surplus is produced by the
labor of yourself and the rest of the laboring
class and it does’nt make a particle of dif-
ference whether you are a property owner or
not all the expences of the government to
say nothing of the extra profit the property
owner appropriates for himself comes out of
your labor Can’t you see that when a mer-
chant sells a piece of goods that he figures
the rent taxes insurance waste interest on
the money invested and all into the cost of
the goods and makes the customer pay the
whole works If the purchaser happens to be
a wage earner he pays all this out of his
littleportion that he is forced to take out of this
competitative devide up system but if he is
an employer of labor he just simply puts it
on his expense acbount and it is payed for
out of the surplus product of his employes
so the world rests on the shouldars of the
man who does the work both mental and
physical whether they are property owners or
not and the man who tries to deprive him of
his vote in the government to which he owes
allegiance is a trator to his country a con-
spirator against the cause of liberty and a
disgrace to tee name of every martyr that
ever died in the interest of real democracy

We went out to Mr Malone brick’s yard
west of town last Monday Mr Malone is
putting up a modern brick plant and with his
thirty years experience in the'' business and
the dirt he has to work with he certainly
will turn out an immence quantity of high
grade brick Duncan will henceforth take
the lead in the brick making industry of this
section as it has already taken it in others
There is no question but what Mr Malone is
right up-to-now on the making of brick and
he will save the people of Duncan many
thousand dollars in cheaping the cost of
