Wapanucka School Excerises
Tuesday night at the high
school auJitorium the first of the
closing exercises of the year’s
1920-21 was rendered Mother
Goose Island was the title of the
operetta given it was rendered
by pupils of the first six grades
under the direction of Miss
Plummer Miss Dean and Mrs
Cassidy This little musical
drama was one of the most en-
tertaining pi ograms ever given
by the school Both the boys and
girls of the cast of characters
and the teachers deserve much
credit for the excellent manner
in which the program was ren
dered
On Wednesday night the
second program was rendered
This was the humorous and in-
teresting classic of Washington
Irving written and dramatized
by pupils of the Eighth Grade
under the instruction of Miss
Sullivan: and the between the
scenes part were drills pan-
tomimes readings and music by
Miss Kerr’s pupils of the Seven-
thGrade Both the play especi-
ally the iast scene where Rip
appeared after his sleep of twen-
ty years and the flower drills
pantomimes readings and music
were enjoyed by the audiance
very greatly The “D'xie Land”
pantomime of the Seventh Grade
was recei ved with unusual en
thusiasm
The other programs will be

Big Profits In Sweet Potatoes
The sweet potato may prove
as valuable an asset to States
Qapable of producing it in great
quantities as the peanut has
proved to 'Alabama and Georgia
in the opinion of Senator Dial of
South Carolina T
At the present time the sweet
potato is not of exceedingly great
commercial value In Georgia
the Department of Agriculture
is experimenting in the manu-
facture of syrup from the swett
potato Extractions zre very ex-
cellent in appearance and taste
it is atfirmed but it has not yet
been demonstrated that it can
be produced at such reason
able cost as to warrant its com-
petition with sorghum sugar
cane and maple syrup

The Ada Normal for the sum-
mer session will open on next
Monday This will take a numb-
er of the teachers away Satur-

Summer Normal School
The East Central State Norm-
al a college for teachers will
open on the 23rd of this month
It will offer in a nine weeks
session practically every subject
which high school students or
teachers will desiie to take in
either the high school or the
college department It is not for
teachers only Credit in all the
public schools and in the higher
colleges will be given for passing
work done in the Normal at Ada
Johnston County should and will
be well represented at the Ada
Normal from May 23 to July 23
This county belongs to the
Ada district
Besides courses for teachers
and college work there will be
special courses in music art
drawing vocational domestic
sciences and art agriculture and
educational tests and measure
ments The faculty of the Norm-
al will be supplemented by the
most competent superintendent
and high school principals of the
11 counties included in the Ada
district
Senator Dial has ascertained
that it is scientifically possible to
extract the liquid substance from
the sweet potato without doing
injury to the potato This scheme
will make it possible to present
broadcast through the sweet
potato at a profit or rather will
eliminate the risk of decomposi-
tion in transit
At the request of Senator Dial
the director of markets will im-
mediately send broadcast through
the sweet potato section all in-
formation bearing on the subject
Alabama is the principal sweet
potato State with Georgia and
Texas second and third

Hogs Leads Officers To Still
It took a country hog with a

Civic Organization Work
The practical side of civic
organization work dealing with
community interests upon a
strictly business basis will be
offered in the Oklahoma summer
school of community leadership
to be held at the State University
beginning the work of June 19
This will be a joint undertaking
by the American City Bureau and
the University of Oklahoma
Because of the central location
cf the Oklahoma University the
school was located in this part of
the United States
Bridge Will Be Completed Soon
