Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce,
President Lahman presided and the minutes of the Jan.4th.
meeting were approved as read.
Under the head of new business,harry French introduced the
subject of the City Manager form of government,stated he thought
it the. proper time to again go into this subject,and moved; that
a committee of three members be appointed to work on this proposal.
Arthur lIcEwen seconded this motion and without discussion toe mot-
ion carried unanamously .
County treasurer h. E. Basil announced that the tax rolls
would be delivered to his office within the coming few days and
that taxes could be paid at his office starting at least by the
fifteenth of this month,and extending over a period of sixty days.
E.E. Brewer reported that he had secured the Rev.Virgil G.
Nalley, pas tor of the Christian Church,as a new Chamber member.
L.V..Burton and E.E.Brewer each rendered a report relative
to their attendance at the last prior meeting of the City Commission
and succeeded in convincing those present that they both had really
been present at this meeting. Ben Choate and Dale Barnes were named
to report back concerning the coming meeting of the City Commission.
Higgins moved; that the City Commissioners be apprized of the
Chamber’s appreciation of the assistance rendered in connection
with the Municipal Christmas free undertaking and that Messers.
Choate and Barnes convey this appreciation. Inis motion was second-
ed and carried. o
President Lahman, hoping to get a little actionnthe part of
several committees which have not recently given much signs of life,
again announced the personnel of the Road,City and Agricultural
Committees .
Claude E.Leachman told of a call he received to attend a con-
ference at Oklahoma City,at which conference he had been informed
that the dates for the installation of Talking Movies had been
advanced in several instances and that the date of the ins talla-
ion in aillwater could be advanced from June to Feb.provicing
such advanced date was wan tea here, lir .Leachman further told of
the plans for the sale of attendance coupon-books here and stated
these books would be delivered to the various committees at an
early date.
A letter was read announcing a meeting at the County Agent’s
office on Tuesday,Jan.15th.,at which time an agricultural pro-
gram covering this county for the coming year would be planned.
Mr.Godley spoke in this connection and urged the attendance of
business men at this conference.
C.Ray Smith spoke briefly relative to the importance of the
dairy industry and suggested more intensive work in this connect-
ion .
Guests present at this meeting and introduced were; lr.and
Mrs.Oakley Leachman, Mr .and Hrs. Clark Abbot and John Grady by
Claude LeachmanjMr.Matlock,of Cushing,by Robt.Carlisle;Miss Skewe,
Red Cross nurse, by Miss Flo Swalley;and Mrs.Mcleff by Albert.
Adjournment was declared at the close of te hour.
