DEAR ABBY: I am 29, college educated, single by choice
and cnsidered a very attractive woman. My problem? I am
a victim of discrimination.
Until I became a blonde a year ago. I never realized how
much blondes were discriminated against Especially good
looking blondes. If a woman happens to be blonde and good
looking, she is immediately labeled as dumb. And if she's
blonde, good looking and has a great figure, she is
automatically written off as stupid.
Abby. I am the same person I was when I had brown hair,
but people Iwomen as well as men) react totally differently
to me since I became a blonde.
I am tired of fighting the "dumb blonde" image, and have
considered going back to my natural color, but I like my hair
this color Please print this with some suggestions on how to
cope with unfair stereotypes.

DEAR ABBY: About 15years ago you ran a most inspire
tional poem titled "Slow Me Down, Lord" I read it often as a
constant reminder to slow down to more fully enjoy life's
simple pleasures. Today, when people seem to be rushing
around more frantically than ever, that poem is even more
timely. Will you please run it again?

DEAR ANNA: With pleasure. I agree, it deserves a re-
ran:
"Slow me down. Lord!
Ease the pounding of my heart
By the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace
With a vision of the eternal reach of time
Give me.
Amidst the confusion of my day.
The calmness of the everlasting kills.
Break the tensions of my nerves
With the soothing music of the singing streams
That live in my memory
Help me to know
The magical restoring power of sleep.
Tesch me the art
Of taking minute vocations of slowing down
to look at s flower;
to chat with an old friend or make a new one;
to pat a stray dog;
to watch a spider build a web;
to smile at a child;
or to read a few lines from a good book
Remind me each day
That the race is not always to the swift;
That there is more to life than inereasing its speed.
Let me look upward
Into the branches of the towering oak
And know that it grew great and strong
Because it grew slowly and well.
Slow me down. Lord
And inspire me to send my roots deep
into the soil of life s enduring values
That I may grow toward the stars
Of my greater destiny."
