Tuesday. Democrat Bill Dawson of Seminole
is pitted against Thomas J. Petuskey of
Oklahoma City, who was unopposed in the
Republican party
Dawson has been actively involved in public
uitlity activities during his career in the state
Senate He co-authored a 200-page volume on
the need for utility regulation reform in
Oklahoma He was a leading member of a
special legislative committee to investigate
utility affairs. Dawson has strongly advocated
basic rate reforms to assist citizens on fixed
and low incomes.
Obviously, Dawson, a 35-year-old lawyer
who defeated the veteran politico from Little
Dixie, Joe Bailey Cobb, in the Democratic
runoff, is well versed on utility company
operations We believe he is well deserving of
election to the Corporation Commission
We urge you to vote Tuesday for Bill
Dawson
that almost certainly will end
if Boren is elected
For Boren, a victory will
mark the start of a new
national career for the 37
yearold Rhodes scholar and
attorney, who denies having
ambitions beyond the Senate

Protect Your Heritage, Vote
During the nation’s Bicentennial two years
ago, Oklahoma set a record at the polls, one of
the highest turnout percentages at the polls
There is no Bicentennial celebration this year.
That should not make a difference, but it will
Apathy on the part of voters will be the only
thing that will keep George Nigh out of the
governor’s office, keep Spencer Bernard in
Rush Springs, David Boren out of the U.S.
Senate, and deprive Oklahomans of the clout
in Congress that can be provided by Tom
Steed
These are excellent public servants
deserving of the offices they seek Nigh and
Steed have come under vicious attack in
recent days from the metropolitan press We
feel it is desperation effort by the opposition
and it must fail.
We believe George Nigh’s experience as
lieutenant governor will better enable him to
serve us as governor The same holds for
Spencer Bernard, who has served Grady
County well in the House of Representatives
including an unprecedented three terms as
speaker pro temp.
David Boren’s experience in state govern-
ment provides him with the know how to be
effective in the U.S. Senate.
As for Tom Steed, we see no need for firing
him. You don’t fire an employee who is doing a
good job. Oklahoma needs his seniority in the
House
Tom Daxon is needed as the state inspector
auditor
We feel the citizens of Grady County are
acquainted well enough with the candidates
for state representative, county commissioner
and district judge to make the right choice on
Tuesday.
But you will not be assured of good public
servants unless you go to the oolls on Tuesday.
Whether you vote for the eventual winner or
loser, you will be the winner because you went
to the poll and voted
