OKLAHOMA.
A sequel to ray first poeiu, "Oklahoma," published recently:
All hall to the Host, your quest is now ended:
Your star, 'mongstthe blue of "Old Glory." Is blended.
The leash of your bondage is severed for aye,
And you walk forth In honor, to welcome this day.
Tlio' trembling you stand, 'neath the glare of the sunlight,
Fain doubting the truth of your glorious birthright.
So long have you waited, the while without moiling
The escutcheon you wrought in honestly toiling.
The future is yours—wealth smiles to greet you
With honor to shield—there's none to defeat you.
Walk forth to the banquet! the "Fair God's have spread,
With trump and with banner, to victory led.
Your's now to enfold the souls who so love you —
Heads bared to the sun, bright shining above you.
—Monnie Moore Latham.

An Early Pioneer of Grant County,
Mr. Frank Roberson, of Kingman,
Kans., was a caller at the Star oftlce
the early part of last week. Frank
was one of the lucky men who made
the race and got a good claim about
two or three miles northwest of
this city, and came down to look after
his wheat crop just harvested. Mr.
Roberson was at one time superintend-
ent of schools in Kingman county,
and as there were many King-
man county boys here in 18H8, he
made up his mind to try to be elected
county superintendent of this county.
He easily received the nomination on
the republican ticket, while his oppo-
nent, Mrs. F. Boyer, received the
nomination on the democratic ticket.
It was the same year that Dennis
Flynn ran for delegate to congress
and this fact gave Mr. ltoberson ev-
ery promise of election, as the Free
Homes question was a prominent
feature of the campaign. His oppo-
nent was a lady of fine personal qual-
ities and very popular. The cam-
paign between these two parties was
friendly and conducted on lines of
fairness. When the votes were counted
out it was found that his fair oppo-
nent, had received over 400 majority -
about the same majority received by
Mr. Flynn—and to this day Mr. Rob-
erson can't realize just how it all hap-
pened that he was so badly beaten
It will be remembered, however, that
J. O. Butts was elected sheriff that
year and he appointed Mr. Roberson
his under-sheriff and lie made a good
record while serving in that capacity.
Before leaving Medford Mr. Rober-
son enrolled his name on the Star list
and will be a reader of the leading
paper of Grant county for the next
twelve months, if not for twelve years.
The Grant County Bank, Medford,
Oklahoma.
We have disposed of our interest in
tn this bank to Mr. W. J. Gardner of
Renfrow, and Mr. P. u. Updike of
Omaha, Nebraska, and cease to be
officers thereof after this date.
Mr. Gardiner has been elected pres
ident of the bank, Mr. llpdike, vice-
president, and Mr. F. O. Dort, cash-
ier. Mr. Gardiner will take up his
residence in Medford and with Mr.
Dort become actively identilied with
the management of the bank. Mr.
Updike is extensively interested in
banking in Nebraska, and is connect-
ed with Mr Gardiner in the ownership
of the Bank of Renfrow.
In retiring from the bank we are
very glad to be succeeded by such
trustworthy men and can most Strong-
ly recommend them to the confidence
of the people of Medford and vicinity.
They have large experience, ample
means and unswerving integrity, and
our patrons can feel sure of good
treatment at their hands.
