Falls From Wagon to Death.
Muskogee, Okla.—When Mr. and
Mrs. H. make were driving to theic
farm from town, they missed Ellen,
their four-year-old daughter, who was
fiding in the bottom of the wagon bed.
They retraced their tracks and found
the child dead on the street. She had
fallen out of the wagon and a wheel
had run over her.

Oklahoman Burned at Stake.
Shawnee, Okla.-Mrs. Emma Blng.
man, formerly of Shawnee, writes
friends here from Fort Sumner, N. M.,
that her son-in-law, Robert Swazey,
also formerly of this place, was burn-
ed at the stake my Mexican bandits
June 16. Swazey was employed on
the Mexican railway and had the cus-
tody, it Is said, of the company funds
which the bandits sought. He refused
under torture to divulge the where-
abouts of the money and was burned
to death.
A college professor who hadn't any

seems a very small number of words,

Drowned In Sight of Wife.
Ponca City, Okla.—John Givens,
of Ponca City, was drowned while
bathing with a party of friends in the
Fait Fork river near Ponca. The par.
t.v, consiting of Mr. Givens. his wife
and several other men and their wives,
were spending the day on the Salt
Fork. While bathing Mr. Givens got
Into deep water and the swift current
took him out of the reach of help
The body of the drowned man was re-
covered later in the evening. He was
a prominent merchant.

Huge Ore Deal at Miami.
Miami, Okla.—Possibly the biggesl
individual deal in, the history of th«
Oklahoma lead and zinc mining indus
try was consummated when the Mia
mi Royalty company sold to Georgt
W. .Moore of Webb City, forty-fivt
cars of zinc ore. This is the output ol
their Turkey Fat mine the past few
months, besides the many tons of lead
produced and shipped during the ao
cumulation of the zinc. The Ne*
State Mining company sold 1,000 tons
The ore brought the two companiei
about $120,000.
No More Betting on Ball Games.
Thomas, Okla.—To stop betting on
baseball games in this city the Law
and Order League has requested Man.

Aline, Okla—Albert Duall, a farm
hand, received information from
Quincy, 111,, that the will of H. B. Roy-
land bequeaths to him a $10,000 farm
near Quincy. Duall formerly worked
for Royland in Wisconsin and was
told then he would be remembered
He will return to Illinois.
A New Sensation.
Little Jean had visited one of the
large summer amusement parks for
the first time, and with the courage
possessed only by those girls whose
playmates are boys and girls older
than themselves, she had not hesi-
tated, when Invited, to take a ride on
one of the "thrillers" that abound In
such places.
"To her mother, on hei* return from
the park, she confided the emotions
she had experienced as she swept
round the curves of the "figure eight"
with her elder brothers.
"Mamma," she said, "when I went
round those awful turns so fast I felt
just as If I had freckles on my

Error in Reprieve Rectified.
Oklahoma City, Okla.—Because of a
clerical error in the reprieve of Henry
Prather, negro, under sentence of
death for the murder of W. H. Archie,
a new reprieve was issued the negro.
The date for execution read "June 28"
and was changed to read "July 28."

Guthrie, Okla.—Walter Patton, a

j killed by lightning during an electri-

Grand Jury Censures Officials.
Tulsa, Okla—Of the 107 indict-
ments returned by a special grand jury
which was in session fifteen days, 100
were for liquor violations. The city
officials of Tulsa and the Civic Lea-
gue came in for severe censure at
the hands of the grand jury.
Killed Inside Thresher.
Muskogee, Okla.—James B. Searcy,
a young farmer of Wainwright, was
killed when he fell into the machinery
of a threshing machine near Wain,
righ. Searcy was riding on the thresh-
er which was being moved to Oaktaha.
The engine ran into a ditch and the
separator crashed into the engine,
Searcy fell between them and was
crushed to death.
Why He Quit.
"Haven't I the privilege of making
Suggestions to the man fixing the
lawn?" she asked, with tears In her
voice.
"Why, certainly," he assured her.
"Well, Just because I made a sug-
gestion to him he threw all his tools
In the wheelbarrow In an angry man-
ner and went away without saying a
word."
"Why, what had you said to make
him act like that?"
"I Just asked him to plant a few
nice dandelions in the lawn."
A Quaint Thought.
Miss Geraldine Farrar, seated In

Ponca City, Okla.—While swimming

2,585 Smallpox Cases in State.
Oklahoma City, Okla.—In the weekly
public health report for June 23, of the
public health and marine hospital ser-
vice of the I'nited States it is s own
that in Oklahoma during the year 1910
there were 2,585 cases of smallpox,
this state having more than any other
state except three. North Carolina,
Texas and Michigan reported more
cases than did Oklahoma. There were
ninety-nine fatal cases in the state.
The entire bulletin is given over tc
smallpox and plague diseases.
