Penalty will be
Added Monday
A week ago it was announced
that the county emmissioners
had extended the tax payment
until October 1st After investi-'
gation however it was found
that there was no way in defer-
ing the penalty and the county
treasurer has thus far refused
to shoulder the responsibility
inasmuch as it is liable to involve
his bondsmen Hence we are
authorized by the treasurer to
make the statement that after
next Saturday the penalty will
be added to all who have not
paid their 1911 tax and that all
real property will be advertised
for sale on October 1st
It was hoped that this matter
could be arranged thqt our
citizens would not have to cough
up this money at this time but
under existing circumstances
there seems no other way out

ARRANGEMENTS
BEING MADE
For the Tenth Anniversary of
Our Little City
GOVERNOR HASKELL HERE
'
Thursday and Friday of next
week will more than likely be the
biggest days experienced in our
city for a long time Ten years
ago next Thursday it was that
the first lot was sold on the
present townsite it was the lot
where now stands the Temple
National Bank sold to J C
Tandy then of Granbury Tex-
as who made the purchase for
the express purpose of erecting
a bank building - Ten years ago
where is now located our thriv-
ing little city with its substantial
brick business buildings and its
many cozy and convenient resi-
dence houses was but n vast
prairie where roamed the coydte
and wjiere the now extinct
prairie dog found his home
Of those who then comprised
the business fraternity of' the
little town of Botsford which'
was located a half mile south of
this city and upon the opening
of the present town moved their
thousands (?) of dollars worth of
goods to the railroad town only
a few remain some having drift-
ed to a foreign land while others
have answered the call of the
silent tomb The old wooden
hulls then used foi business
houses and which were trans-
ferred from the old town of
Botsford have long since been
replaced with handsome bricky
buildings' Then the' census
enumerator gave us a population
of fourteen and a half Dr G 0
Webb being the half owing to
the fact that he was so small and
and could hardly be found but
today our little city has a
population of something like one
thousand
Among others that made up
the little town of Botsford is
found Thos Lewis one of our
present rural mail carriers Mr
Lewis had the only drug store
and his stock consisted of a
bottle of quinine a box of pills
and a few grains of calomel
Ed Kloeckler then the gents
furnishing man had his selves
loaded down with a stock of
clothing which consisted of one
suit of clothes two extra pairs
of pants and a half dozen work
shirts In addition to this' he
carried a line of groceries and
when a customer came along
that wanted as much as a dollar’s
worth of sugar he would run
across the street to his competi-
tor B A Neely where he
borrows the balance he being
more fortunate in having a team
and wagon so that he could make
a trip to Addington twice or
three times a week and replen-
ish his stock
Dr Webb then the only
physician in this end of the
county had his office in the drug
store of Thos Lewis and his
surgical instruments consisted
a of pair of pliers used in extract-
ing teeth and a common hand saw
in case amputation of a limb be-
came necessary Soon after
however Dr 0 W Alexander
made settlement on his home-
stead and it was then that com-
petition among the doctors was
established
About the same time W J
Dustman now manager of the
South Texas Lumber Company
made settlement on his claim
just west of the city and it was
early one bright sun shiny morn-
ing when the citizenship of Bots-
ford was amazed to see this same
Mr Dustman down on the streets
with a saw and hatchet in his
hands trying to palm himself off
on the people as a carpenter
Before leaving home that morn-
ing hie made an inventory and
found that he had the immense
sum of twenty-five cents and in
order that he might make further
improvements it became very
aeces8ary that be hit the boss
Carpenter and contractor Joe
Fudge for a job only to be dis-
appointed with the answer he
already bad five applications and
only one day's work in sight
At this juncture the enterpris-
ing citizenship of Botsford be-
came imbued with the spirit of
public enterprise and decided
that they must have a newspaper
a medium that would sound the
praises of Botsford and show to
the world the wonderful oppor-
tunities of the town that was
destined to become a second
Dallas Texas within the period
of but a few short years At a
business men’s meeting John
Brown also a master carpenter
came forth with the generosity
of a pioneer and made the propo-
sition that he would donate the
work on the construction of an
office building providing parties
could be induced to put in a
printing plant Your present
editor had previous reviewed the
situation and the generous offer
of Mr Brown swa3 conveyed to
us by special carrier while yet a
resident of Lawton The deal
was consumated the offer of Mr
Brown accepted and if his resi-
dence was not in such close
proximity to us at this time we
would say that he succeeded in
skinning us to the extent of $100
on a $175 contract but the paper
was started and we are proud to
say that with the support of the
business men of yesterday and
today we are still here
The remeniscent of the bygone
days of Botsford will no doubt
be on hand at the celebration of
the opening of Temple on next
Thursday - On this celebration
our business men and citizens
haye devoted considerable time
and money and they now extend
a hearty welcome to one and all
to come and share in this grand
celebration
For the entertainment of our
friends from the country a pro-
gram has been outlined which
appears in this issue of the
Tribune In addition to this
however there will be other
features of entertainment
Ex-Governor C N Haskell of
Muskogee candidate for the U
8 Senate will probably be the
principal orator on this occasion
As shown on the program he will
address the citizens of Temple

GOOD RAIN
LAST NIGHT
The long dry spell covering a
period of about six weeks has at
last been broken Last night
this section was visited with a
down pour lasting about 20
minutes and while more would
have been very acceptable it is
claimed this will put the corn to
where it can stand it for a week
or ten days more After the
rain the streets of our little city
were flooded -
According to reports from the
country in places it rain con-
siderably more while in other
sections it hjardly laid the dust
but as we go to press the indi-
cations are very good for more
