We Have Them!
Tagging Bachelors
Tax for Single Men is Bein&
Urged Instead
Undoubtedly the man who first
wore buttons advocated matri-
mony and wished for a wife
The old time bachelor buttons
were essential to dignity and
comfort and were not merely a
tag of eligibility
Mrs Frank Page society lead-
er of Cambridge Mass' blossom-
ed forth and stated that a bachel-
or button (indicating freedom
from mati imonal strife) should
be worn on the coat lapel
I doubt f he advisability of tag-
ging the dear boys who enjoy
-ingle blessedness
What good would it do? It
would not increase theij usofnl-
nessnor odd to their popularity
Bachelor ensigns would prob-
ably mean in the words of the
old song: “I’fn glad I’m Free”
or “Darling 1 Am Waiting for
Thee” according to the view-
point '
Some financiers say: “Don’t
tag the bachelors but tax them”
That is a thieving proposition
and only married folks would
sanction it
The worid needs bachelors —
men and women — and they look
good and do good Without the
label - i
If there must need be tagging
done J suggest that we tag the
married man with a sign so large
that “he who runs may read”
I don’t think that bachelors
pose as married men but marri-
ed men ui ten pose as bachelors
when seeking their soul mates
: Some ‘-ympathetic well in-
tentioned persons might say
that a n n n encumbered or bless-
ed (as tl case might be) with a
wife and family has tags enough
1 But i- it not reasonable to sup-
pose lint any married man could
carry tin-extra weight of a tag
or button bearing the warning:
‘Girl- i a m not free there are
other t'g on me”
Put n - label on bachelors?
Perish i lie thought A tag would
embarrass those worthy bipeds
