Border Days Re-apepar
A NARRATIVE
The little town of Coleman last
(Saturday night experienced one
bf the squalliest times since the
passing of border days as can be
testified by many a citizen
The little birds flitted hither
and thither in search of a haven
of safety — for it seemed that the
opening of a lead mine was very
imminent on short notice
Cats and dogs sought refuge
under house floors and the barn-
yards fowls went to the woods
The timid and demure popu-
lace cowered back into the most
safe recess of tueir homes and
invoked the protection of the
goddness of peace and blessen
quietness The more venture
-some and caie-free managed to
maintain a semi-mental equilibri-
um sufficiently" to 'give an inco-
herent account of “The Night’s
Work”
EXPLANATION
Home sleuth-footed individual
early Saturday transported
some kind of antedote to intelli-
gence within reach of a few win
are not over careful for their
safety and who laterly imbibed
beyond the average degree of
proportion
As the night wore on the
cursed decoction begun its work
of overpowering descretion and
good judgement and the better
sentiments and more noble
passions were estranged from all
goodness Epithets vile and
obscene vulgarisms and oaths
were as carelessly spokon as the
yhoices soliquies One man was
knocked op the head with “41” j
(whioh put him hors d-combat 1
for a while) and other trouble
was expected
SUPPLICATION
Inasmuch as the peace-loving
men women and' children of
C oleman have been made the un-
willing recipients of a visitation
by the re-appearanco of "border
days” and that as citizens of a
civilized and enlightened land —
the boasted home of thq brave —
a demand for justice and protect-
ion is sought It is the earnest
desire of every law-abiding citiz-
en to receive prqtectjon from
the evil intentioU of evildoers
and will they receive it? Our
hearts a: e wrung tith anguish
a tear perhaps bedims the feeble
sightof an aged father or mother
and the soul mourns because of
the increasing depravity of man-
kind May’ nbt our5 mothers"
sisters daughters' 1 wives and
sweethearts be spared the sleep-
less nignts in grief and that the
purity of their lives may remain
unsullied from the lqathsome
consequence of the untutored
nature of vile men that their
ears may not again hearken to
the discqrdant sounds of mid-
night revelry anddrunken stupor
and that sweet -freedom’s ail
may fail as agent for transition
of the knowledge of such inborn
depravity The " officers must
lave the co-operation of the peo
pie The people must rise ip
their might with righteous in-
dignation and clqim a portion of
right for their own
The man who is squnfqrtunate
is to decerid to suoh depravity to
litter vile sladg and cuss word-
within the hearing Of wqmen am
girls not respecting his fellows
such an individual should bt
made to realize and respect the
duties he owes to his fellowmen
if not his God
