County Celebration
The citizens of Altus are up
and doing over the new county of
Jackson, which will have for its
county seat the prosperous town
above mentioned. An account of
the meeting as given in the Altu;
Times of Dec. 27, in part, is a
follows:
The sovereign people of ti
county of Jackson, State of Ok]
homa, U. S. A., held a grand an
glorious jubilee at Altus Satui
day night. The celebration wu
held for the purpose of ratifyin
and endorsing the action of ti
county boundaries committee o
the constitutional convention ii
dividing Greer county and ii
forming Jackson county, and i
one is allowed to judge by the en
thusiasm, the flow of oratory, th
size of the crowd, the fireworks
the noise and racket, the citizen*
participating meant every wor<
of it, and would be glad to ha\
an opportunity to repeat the pei
formance.
Invitations had been sent bj
phone and letter to every town ii
the new county to attend, an<
most of them responded with bi
delegations. Olustee, Headrick
Warren, Martha and Elmer wen
here in force, while even Eld<
radosenta few of her leadin;
business men with the Courie
editor bearing the olive bran< i
of peace to tell us that Eldorad'
had fallen into line and woulc
join heart and hand with us it,
making Jackson county the Lesi
in the new state. All the otlie
towns were well represented,
and both evening trains wert
crowdtd with passengers for
Altus.
The speaking lasted until after
10 o'clock, but the celebration die
not end there by any means
Long after the people hud retiree
to their beds the booming of the
anvils and fire crackers, the his-
sing of giant rockets, Romai
candles and other noise making
institutions could be heard unti
far into the morning hours. Th-
celebration was a complete sue
cess, and if the members of ti it
county boundaries committe
could have been present, the.\

They refer to the work ac-

ballot has been given to the w<

sometimes presented by men
as a joke, against granting the
right of suffurage to women, and
have given in this pamphlet
number of addresses from men
