As a nerve food and restorer it has

An Oyster with False Teeth
Experts of the United States gait
sommission have made a special study
3t the conditions under which oysters
vow and to illustrate the daptabil
ly of the molluscs they have gathered
curious collection of objects It
omprises oysters growing upon a
great variety of things such as old
boots rubber shoes beer glasses and
even a lantern There is a broken
aottle inside of which as well as on
the outside oysters have found a
home And oddest of all there is an
upper set of false teeth to which an
enterprising oyster is firmly attached
The history of this last oyster is de
cidedly interesting About four years
ago it was raked out of the waters of
Chesapeake bay by a dredging beat to
gether with the false teeth to which
it was firmly fixed and teeth and oys-
ter were acquired by a hotelkeeper at
Cowart Va whose wife forwarded
them to the Stnithsonlan institute at
Washington The matter obtaining
some arvertising in the newspapers a
Mr Webster residing in Bedford la
claimed the teeth saying that he had
lost them while seasick from the
steamer bound for Norfolk The
Smithsonian people were undecided
gt first as to whether they should Bur
render the teeth or not the object be
lag so weak i4 ctarlosity that they were
anxious to hold on to it But not
many days later a Philadelphia woman
claimed them asserting that they
were hers and actually a third party
visiting the institution demanded them
declaring that he recognized them as
having been lost by himself Prob
ably from first to last a good many
persons have lost their false teeth
overboard in the Chesapeake the wet
era of which are liable to be pretty
rough at times Anyway the Priem
ment scientists do not care to decide
the dispute and concluded to retain
the specimen

Charcoal an Economical Fuel
The fuel of the ancient Romans
was almost exclusively charcoal This
was burned in open pans without
grate or flue and gave economical
heat for living rooms and baths Care-
ful experiments has shown that such
fires yield no considerable amount of
dangerous carbonic oxide The in-
convenience of chimneys was avoided
the heat could be easily regulated and
a pan with a burning surface suMced
to heat a church seating 2000 people
