under arrest at Hobart.
The school board met Monday and
eugaged the following teachers:
E.E. Morton, principal; Lula Uwt
of Missouri, primary grade and Stella
Watkins, intermediate. A levy of 15
mills was made for a nine months term
of sohool beginning the first Monday in
September.
Mrs. T. U. Salmon left Weduesday
for Alderson, I. T., to visit her mother
and sister who are both quite sick.
L. Cahill was elected Territorial
Committeeman from Kiowa county by
the democratic convention Saturdny.
Miss Katie Richert left Saturday for
Cordell, where she will attend the
teacher's normal, lasting four week*.
T. U. Salmon went to Maugum Mon-
day to attend a meeting of the Rook
Island Agents of the Maugum branch.
The party who borrowed our pump

F. B. Heinrich and Dr. Richert left
Saturday for Enid to atteud the funeral
of Peter Regier who died at that plaoe
Friday.
DIED
Thursday evening at the home of her
daughter Mrs. E L. Barnes south of
town, Mrs. B. H. Watkins aged 72 years.
Funeral Friday afternoon, interment at
Odessa. Deceased is survived by a hus
band, three sons, and one daughter and
numerous grand children all of whom
were at her bedside when the end came.
Deceased with her husband came here
some time ago to visit their children,
L. J. Watkins, J. H Watkins and Mrs.
Barnes, but having been a sufferer from
brights disease for some time, began
to deecline rapidly until the end came
last night. The bereaved family have
the sympathy of the entire community
in their hour of sorrow.
Bad Accident
Frank Lenier whose parents live near
Mt. Sheridan, with two of his brothers
was employed by Geo. Hinds to work
in his cotton field. Frank arriving
Tuesday evening, hence did not know
the arrangements of the place, so after
eating supper all three of the boys
started for the barn, their place of rest;
Frank who is but 13 years old, feeling
satisfied with himself and the world
after tasting the oullinery skill of Mrs.
Hinds, wanted to work off some of the
exorbitance of his joy and ran ahead of
his brothers, as stated above, he not be-
ing familiar with the place ran with
full force into a barbed wire fence
which caught him *ander the chin cut-
ting a gash about two inch long and
laying bare the windpipe but not in-
juring it. He was immediately brought
to town where Dr. Voyles sewed up the
wound and bandaged the neck and ex-
pects no serious results though it was
a close call for the boy.

Thore Will be a meeting of the Re
publican voters of Harrison township
and of the town of Gotebo, at the City
Hall in Gotebo, on Saturday July 30,
at 2:30 o'clock p m., to nominate the
following township officers:
Clerk, Treasurer,
Trustee, Two Justice of Peace
Two Constables,
Road overseers for various dis
triets in the township.
Immediately after this meeting there
will be a meeting of the Republican
voters of Harrison township to select 13
delegates to represent the township in
the Council Convention, and a meeting
of the Republican voters of the town of
Gotebo to select seven delegates to
represent the town of Gotebo in the
council convention.

PROFESSIONAL CARDS
M. M. Mathis having a fine farm
south of town, was in Saturday to help
his neighbor, S. D Chambers to make
final proof on his claim. Mr. Mathis
remembered the editor with some fiue

S. B. Watkin's of Gentry county,
Missouri, arrived here Tuesday, being
summoned by the serious illness of his
parents who are sick at the home of
their daughter, Mrs L. E. Barnes. He
was accompanied by Dr. Campbell of
Albany, Mo., the old family physician
at the request of Mrs. Watkins.
We note our friend Cahill of Hobart
has at last conoluded that it is not well
for man to live alone, heuoe, has taken
upon himself a wife. While the Ga-
zette offers hearty oongraiulations to
Lawrenoe, it feels sorry for Tom Con-
ner who, alas, has lost his bed-fellow.
Better do likewise Tom but don't go to
Arkansas after her, by gosh!

R. V. Heckmau formerly of this place
but now of Tyrone, in Beaver county,
was in town Weduesday, he reports
crops in fair coudition having had
plenty of rain of late. Shortly after
his removal he sustained severe burns
upon his hsnds in a prairie fire, which
is still paiuful and requires medical at-
tention. While here Dr. Chambers
dressed his hands.
The Union and Reformed Church
Suuday School of Gotebo, intend to
have a basket picuio on Wednesday
July 27, at Pool's ranch, one half mile
east of town. A good program will be
rendered, games, amusements, etc.
