TWO MENJILLED.
An Indian and a White Man Mix
in a Shooting Scrape in Which
Both are Killed.
There
fracas
fourteen miles northwest of Wa-
tonga last Friday, as a result of
which two men are dead—one
white man and an Indian.
It seems that the two Hoby
brothers were out hunting near;
where an Indian by ihe name of j
Blindy was chopping wood. They j
scared up a rabbit and a flock of I
quails and one ahot at the rabbit |
and the other at the quails.
Blindy heard the shooting and
came near where they were and
fired a revolver in the direction
of the hunters. When they asked
why he had shot at them he be-
came angry and a quarrel ensued,
resulting in Blindy shooting
Jim Hoby with a revolver. The
shot did not result in instant
death and before he died Hoby
shot Blindy. Both of them dying
in a very short time. The younger
Hoby boy who was a spectator to
the whole affair immediately gave
the alarm and in a short time a
large crowd wa9 present. The
sheriff notified Coroner McKinster
of this city, who went to the scene
and held an inquest with the fol-
lowing result:
coroner's verdict.
Nov. 18, 1905.
We, the jury empanneied and
sworn to inquire into the cause
of the death of A1 Hoby, do upon
our oaths find that the said A1
Hoby met his death by a gun
shot from a revolver held in the
hands of and fired by one Jim
Blindy, an Arapahoe Indian.

Frank Petrie Dead.
Died, at his residence in Geary
Tuesday, Nov. 21st, 1905, Frank
Petrie, aged 55 years.
Mr. Petrie was born in Boone
county. Illinois, and came to
Geary in 1898, making this place
his home since that time. He
wa9 affiliated with all the earlier
improvements in this city, and
always held in the highest esteem
by all who knew him. He was
noted for his generosity and un-
failing attention to the unfortu-
nated and distressed. He had
been in failing health during
the past five years and bedfast
almost continuously for the past
eighteen months, his complaint
being what is known in the medi-
cal fraternity as locomotive
ataxier, a lingering and painful
disease. Much credit is due his
faithful and devoted wife who
has constantly watched over him
during all his illness, never falter-
ing in what she thought was her
duty. Dr. J. 8. Sanders attended
the deceased and did all that was
in his power to alleviate the ter-
rible suffering of his patient.
The funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. J. 8. Krehbiel at
the family residence Tuesday
afternoon at 3 o'clock, after which
the remains were laid to rest in
the Geary cemetery.
