Why should not Mannsville
have a big ‘ picnic this summer?
Crop prospects arc good and as
soon as the push is over we should
have a day or two set apart in-
which the people could come to-
gether get better acquainted' and
'have an old time jubilee' picnic
Nothing would do more to dis-
perse selfishness give the people
better understanding of each-
other and cultivate sociability
that is so necessary ' to the life
and progress of any town' and
community'
A T Woodward the Philadel-
phia lawyer who was sent to in-
vestigate the alleged fraudulent
enrollment of bogus Indians ou
the 0& ago tribal roll claims that
all kinds of schems were worked
to pad the rolls and he had 160
names which ' he thinks he will
have purged from the roll As
one membership is worth up to
$25000 those whose rights have
been attacked will carry the mat
ter through the fJ S supreme
court before giving it up
The Denison Herald rises to ro-
mark that the cow hen and hog
combination is attracting at-
tention' at the hands of many of
the papers ' of the state' "The
merit'of the combination is bound
to appeal to any one who gives it
moment's thought It m$lps
ft possible for the farmer to have
V steady daily income It makes
it possible for' him to live ’ at
home and enjoy life It makes it
possible for him' to go through
the season barring misfortune
without having to go to the bank
for a dollar"
Another big rain Tuesday ’ has
ruined what few "nubbins" of
corn the people may have thought
they would make’ There will be
nothing short of big ears of corn
and plenty of them raised in this
section of country and the great-
est regret we entertain personally
now is that we haven’t a large fiog
ranch established and well stocked
somewhere in this land of corn
hogs and promise For true
happiness and tho enjoyment of
life we would rather be the pos-
sessor of such a piece of property
than to own a half interest in
Rockefeller’s or Pierce’s run down
oil business
The Brenham Texas Banner
gives us the following paragraph
of good hard sense about boys :
"The trouble about some youug
men these days is they all want
the top places right on the jump
when they begin work when as a
matter of faot they are no more
capable tliau those who have the
top places and those who occupy
the top places have worked ’ for
years to get them There are al-
ways good men for good pla-
oes and : no man should
think for 4 moment there wiill be
no one to take his place when he
drops out but the fact remains
that it will take ft good man to
take hisplaoe— one that is tried
ftnd true' and if will take lodge i
than ft fair dayi to i tht lattttpfr

altogether to many railroad prosi
dents loafing and too few section
hands at Work to make ft long
story short” ’

The boy of today is tho man of
tomorrow and must ehoulder the
burdens and responsibilities that
are now gating on more mature
shoulders There is every reason
then why the boy should receive
the benefit of careful training and
propper fitting for the responsi-
bilities just a little bit ahead of
him— Fort Worth Telegraiq -
Mrs Lucy Agues Mead’ in a
letter in the outlook calls at-
tention to the fact that of
the 18 women who were asked ' to
speak to the' great Peace Con-
gress in New York every one hap-
pened to be A woman suffragist j
and she adds "It is1 safe to1 say
that four-fifth3 of the women
whose names appear in the society

peting for athletic prizes and
posing lor beauty shows are anti-

We are thoroughly convinced
that the greatest trouble in the
way of the farmer in this country
is each one trying to cultivate
too much land A less amount
of land better cultivated would
produce more satisfoctorily aud
wouldn’t be so hard on old clothes
It is very probable that the
constitutional convention will not
complete its work at this sitting
owing to the fact that the census
takers expect to have their ’job
completed id four weeks They
will more than likely 'wrait till
after that work it1 completed to
amend the apportionment clause
of the constitution if needed '
