BEIRUT, Lebanon
(AP) _ Lebanese sol-
diers deployed in east
Beirut today ahead of
the first U.S. Marine pa-
trols, setting up posi-
tions at key points and
threatening to arrest
any Christian militia-
men who refused to lay
down their arms
The move appeared to
be the first full-scale ef-
- fort to take control of
the eastern sector, run
by the militias for the
i past—eight—years.—
Phalange militia spokes-
man Fadi Hayek said his
men would cooperate
with the army, but would
not disarm until ordered
to do so by President
Amin Gemayel.
Deployment of the
first Marine patrols,
scheduled for early
afternoon, was delayed,
a Marine spokesman
said. He said the patrols
would go in later in the
day, but gave no reason
i for the change in plans
in the Chouf moun-
tains 12 miles southeast
of Beirut, police said at
least eight people were
: killed and 20 wounded in
[ another series of clashes
between rightist Chris-
tian and leftist Druse
Moslem militiamen in
the villages of Brih and
Kfar Na brae h.
The Christian-owned
