fsltW Indian Land Rules
The Indian agent for the
live civilized tribes has been
notified of an important cha nge
in the ruling in selling land
through the agency. The
new rule is that in cases where,
iti the opinion of the Indian
agent, the allottee selling his
land is not competent to han-
dle the money received from
the sale, the money must be
depe'sited in the United States
treasury, and will be subject
to_the check of the guardian
of the incompetent or minor,
as the case may be, not to ex-
ceed $10 a month. The agent
must know that the Indian is
getting value received for each
check, The term incompetent
refers to the Indians whose
knowled<r of business affairs is
o
limited. The new order also
states that those whose land
has already been sold, but
the deed not yet returned from
the department approved, shall
be subject to the new ruling.
1 he purchaser of the land must
put up the entire sum of mon
ey just as heretofore.
If you can't marry dollars
the next best, marry sense.
You can whitewash a reputa-
tion, but the spots will show
through.
The smartest man we ever
knew, and the one who could
use the longest words, could
hold a job
In looking around for amuse
ments, don't forget that busi-
ness is important. There are
bills to pay every month.
The Japanese soldier re-
ceives 45 cents a month. The
mikado should b« well enough
pleased with recent develop-
ments to make it an even half
dollar.
Most divorces are caused by
a very common mistake. What
is it? Many a man in love
only with a dimple or a curl
makes the mistake of marry-
iug the whole girl.
No man never amounts to
anything if he expects oppor-
tunity to come along like a
rough rider, grab him by the
top knot and land him in the
palace of success. No mer
chant can expect business to
come to his town if his town
doesn't hustle lor it, nor can a
merhant expect to sell goods
if he doesn't tell the people
who have to buy goods, about
his stock. This is not a world
of chance, but a world of
order.
It is all right for a fast horse
to attempt to lower his record,
but when a man attempts a
similar feat it is all wrong.

TALALA
It is the American farmer
who has paid off our huge in-
debtedness to Europe, who
has brought back cur securi-
ties from foreign banks, and
who has sent American capital
around the world looking for
investments. —Success,
Instead of improving each
shining hour, the busy little
bee would make the weather
conditions better if he could
improve the gloomy, dismal
dajs.—Somerville Journal.
