Matrimonial.
At the residence of Rev. J. M.
Russell, this city, Mr. J. D. Jones
and Mrs. Augusta Walker were
join«d in holy matrimony on Feb.
9th. On Snnday evening follow-
ing the happy eouple departed to
points in Nebraska before settling
down to housekeeping. They carry
the best wishes of the peop'.e of
Talala.

A fire the first of the week in the
Chelsea oil field destroyed the pow-
er bouse and burned one maa to
ieata.
The drill men had the misfortune
to brtak a sh*ift yesterday and in
consequence will be delayed in their
work several days.
Mr. Steele, headpush of the drill-
ing outfit at work in this vicinity,
was in Topic office a few* seconds
the first of the week.

J. W. Paxton's little girl, Hazell,
was taken suddenly ill Wednesday
afternoon. Dr. Bass was call and
soon had the little one on the road
to recovery. 'I he child was repor-
ted greatly improved the fallowing
morning.
Arthur Hurd was in town Satur-
day afternoon looking for a rat
killer He reported that rats were
eating the ears off his calves. He
secured some lighlning rat extermi-
nator from Bass & Graves, and we
now await report as to its efficacy.
City Council at its session Mon-
day afternoon advanced the limit
in the penalty attaching to the non
payment of city taxes on Feb. 1st
to April 1st, 1905, when all delin-
quent on the tax roll on that date
will have ta pay the 25 per cent
penalty.
A very successful operation for
appeudicitis was performed in this
eity by Brs. Former, of Vinita,
Bass and Freer, of this city, assist-
ed by a Miss Russell, a trained
nurse, who has the care of the lit-
tle patient, who is the daughter of
J. H. Bartmess. The operation
was performed the latter part of
last week and the patient is doing
as nicely is could be wished for.

day it turned warm, but we still
insist on having the coal promised
being delivered, as old bereas may
