Geary and vicinity that I will soon open up
a first-class meat market in the building

You may say what you please,
but it pays better to say what
pleases other people.
convention made numerous small
counties, especially in the Indian
territory. These counties will
come into the new state without a
dollar in their treasury, and in a
great many of them nearly all the
land is owned by Indians and
therefore is not taxable. What
few property owners there are in
these counties will have to bear
all the expense of the county gov-
ernment for several years. Can
they do it? The same conditions
exist in several western counties
in Oklahoma. Did the democrats
think of these conditions when
they chopped up ordinary sized
counties and made counties no
larger than lots of townships?
Gov. Frantz says he is through
with politics and politicians *"d
will retire unto private life. About
two years among l^e brand of
politicians produced in Oklahoma
is enough to sicken any man.
It is reported that the president
has said that he will sign the
statehood bill when .t r«ohe,
him in proper form. If this is a
fact we will be ushered in as the
40th state about the first of No- |
vember.
Some say, since the democratic
landslide, that Oklahoma has
slipped down into Texas and Ar
kansas. We think, however, that
numerous Texansand Ar^n8aw'
era have slipped up into Oklaho-
ma, instead of us slipping down
that way.
Haskell has said that he will
enforce all the law 3 on the statute
books, and will make it a point to
see that the lid is kept closed good
and tight. He says the liquor in-
terests fought him before election
and he intends to repay them in
their own coin.
Things never seem tooomejust
right for the poor devil who has
to buy the necessities of life, in
July and August, coal is the
cheapest and ice is the highest.
During cold weather coal is the
highest and ice is the cheapest or
the whole year.
Now that the president has said
that he will sign the statehood bill,
even if he does not like the con
stitution, a few of the peeant poli
ticians who have been hollering
their heads off for fear the presi-
dent would listen to the republi-
can politicians and refuse to sign
the bill, will have to go back and
sit down. Roosevelt believes in
majority rule, and unless he is
shown that something is rad-j
ically wrong in the election held
in the two territories, he will abide
by the wishes of the voters.
There seems to be a mistaken
idea as to when prohibition goes
into effect in Oklahoma, and sa-
loon men fn various places over
the territory are renewing their
license with the idea that they
cannot be stopped until the new
license expires. This is a mis-
taken idea. A county or city li-
cense does not insure that the
holder thereof can sell liquors un-
i til said license expires. It it
1 merely a license to do business as
long as it is in conformity- with
the state laws. As soon a* the
new state officials take their offi-
ces prohibition goes into effect.
Then until the first legislature
meets and arranges for dispen-
saries Oklahoma will be absolutely
dry, and it will be unlawful to
barter, sell or give away intox-.
icating liquor*. It shall also be
unlawful to transport liquors from
one point to another in the terri-
tory.
Rev. Swigart returned this
week from Free Methodist annual
Conference at Guthrie. He was
returned to the charge at Geary,
and the district elder, J. L- Brown
was retained for the Kingfisher
and Hobart districts. He will
continue to reside in Geary.

tics. Druggists everywhere are
now dispensing Preventics, for
they are not only safe, but de-
cidedly certain and prompt. Pre-
ventics contain no quine, no lax-
ative, nothing harsh nor sicken-
ing. Taken at the ' sneeze stage
Prevcntics will prevent pneu-

Alex Ball.w, a switohman in
the Rock Island yacds in this city,
met with quite a serious accident
Tuesday. He endeavored to catch
a box car which had been shunted
onto a siding and the car was go-
ing faster than he thought and
he was thrown to the ground,
bruising him .up considerably,
especially one side of h's face. It
will probably be several days be-
fore he will be on duty again.

band played, Liza crossed the
river, the bloodhounds barked
and Little Eva died, just the same
as they did years ago .At the
conclusion of each performance
of a "Tom" show we all make a
firm vow that it will be our last
visit, yet year after year you will
alwavs find pa and ma and the
kids 'all trying to get a front seat.
