If there is one thing that ia
more apparent than anything
else in this campaign it is the
determination of those democrats
and many honest republicans to
repudiate McGuire on account of
his broken promises on the state-
hood questien.
Two years ago they proclaimed
from the stump, and every prom-
nent democrat received a letter
urging him to vote for McGuire;
that the statehood bill was then
up for consideration and if Mc-
Guire was returned, Statehood
would be assured. Many demo-
crats voted for McGuire for this
reason, and because they wanted
statehood. Every one knows
that Mr. McGuire went to Wash-
ington and worked for the pas-
sage of an impossible double
statehood bill, that the Republi-
can majority in congress decreed
that only single statehood would
be granted.
Everyone knows, too that the
democratic platform of two years
ago declared for single statehood
that that campaign was waged
upon this issue and McGuire went
to Washington upon his double
statehood plank. The Senate
Committee on Territories abso-
lutely refused to accept anything
but single statehood, and so in*
sist at this time.
Vet in the face of all this Mr.
McGuire insists that because the
Senate is republican, and after
they refuse to consider his bill
for Oklahoma alone the people
must elect him in order to get
what he once was elected to de
feat and did defeat.
Gullible, indeed, must they
think the average voter to be who
will swallow this sort of argu
ment.
It is well known that If the
Hamilton bill shall ever become
a law, it will be accomplished be-
fore the present term of Mr. Mc-
Guire shall expire, and if it does
not pass—he will be still further
recreant to his trust. Who knows
but what the Hamilton bill is the
make shift on which he hopes to
ride into office again, and then,
for the benefit of the federal
THat Bar Docket
Our friend, the enemy, In lasl
week's 1 sue has a deal to say about
the manner of letting the print-
log of the bar docket,-and, as usual,
makes a howl about "the gang."
There Is Just one statement In the
article that Is true and that Is the
printing was given to the Beacon.
He knows that when he states that
Mr. Coker took the bid submitted,
not by the Herald Sentinel or Its
editor, but by Mr. Williams, and
wended his way to this office and
opened It, and we then agreed to do
the work for one cent less per., he
either knew It was false, or else he
made It with the willful Intention of
distort! ng the facts. In another In-
stance he siys that to serve "the
gang" the site of the docket was cut
down In size. Here again his zeal to
say something from which capital
might be made, he forgot to consult
his patron saint, the little giant of
astute republicanism, the impregna-
ble clerk of the district court, Mr
G. Everest Wagner, also nominee for
the probate Judge on the republican
ticket. This docket was made up in
accordance with Mr. Wagner's dlrec
tloni as to style and arrangements
Neither Mr. Coker or the proprietor
of this paper had anything to do with
the size of the book, further than to
comply with Mr. Wagner's desire
he expressed it. It Is the same size
that it would have been had it gone
to Mr. Williams.
There Is nothing devious about it,
but the late scion of the Buttlnsky
family will probably learn sooner or
later that he is not the whole thing.

The republican county platform
condemns the present county officers
for their extravagance. Few thought-
ful people believed they would Insist
upon this when they entered the cam
patgn, but it seems they are doing so
They have evidently not given much
attention to the records The run-
ning expenses of the county are less
now than they have ever been. The
present county officers ;not only ad-
minister their offices with less
expense, but care for their offices
without the aid of a Janitor. The
cistern constructed for the use of the
public was done at their expense, save
the jail labor that was employed.
They aided in the construction of the
present court house by donating §10
each toward Its construction. Furth-
er than this they have practically
furnished what little there Is in the
furnishings for their offices.
Now if these challenges are made
in good faith, either by the party,
Its organ or ths candidates, here is a
iut for you. We are authorized to
aay for the officers now occupying
offloes to the court house, that they
will give ten dollars! a day for the
man's time who will Investigate and
ttnd the evidence of extravagance In
any office. This U busslnes. Either
put up or shut UP The trouble with
these fellows Is the y have been try-
ing so hard to think up something
th t would be damaging on the demo-
cratic ticket that It has alven em
pain.
The Democrats of New York
have renominated Judge Herrick,
a member of the Supreme Court
and a Bryan democrat, for gov-
ernor. The nomination wad
made by Hill, formerly an ap-
ponent, and seconded by every
opposing element of the party.
It looks like the DemooraU have
New York "cinched."
