To Exterminate Gypsy Moth.
The gypsy moth fight seems to be
on once more," says the Springfield
Republican. "The Gypsy Moth Com
mittee of the State Board of Agrlcul
ture In- its report declares that the
moth was under control when the
policy of extermination was aban
doned. It holds that at present that
abandonment has resulted in im
mense loss and in the impending
danger that everything in the eastern
part of the state will be eaten up
Now comes the mayor of Maiden and
petitions that the work be taken up
once more, and that the state pay
$100,000 for the beginning."
Merits of Ohio Stateeman.
Congressman "Nick" Longsworth
who suoceeds Gen. Shattuck from Cin
cinnati, is a millionaire who went into
politics because ho likes the game,
making his way to Washington
through the ward, city and state hur
ly-burly. Now he has his eye on tht
senate. Mr. Longworth is a tall man
amazingly bald-headed and a golfer oi
note. Ho once won a bet of $600 by
driving a golf ball from the hills bach
of Cincinnati through the city, across
the bridge tht spans the Ohio rivet
and into Kentucky in a certain speci
fled number of strokes.
Turned Him Down Gently.
A New York politician went to the
President last week and said: "Mr
President, I want a place. I have

"Choate absolutely refuses to resign
as ambassador to England,' and oi
course you wouldn't take anything
also. Good morning."
