Chief Justice burton! of the Terri-

decision holding that tbe recent city
elections at Chandler and at Lawton
and the other cltiea Id ibe new south-

been brought about by sptcial proem

only the regular elections next year

^lth Twenty-'Two.
Sunday moxninii between 6 and 1
o'clock at th< McCace houae atx>ut
tw«nty-thre* miles southeast of Harri-
son, Robert "MoOabe, a Ifl year old boy
shot aud instantly killed his uncle.
Jasper Matheny, a man M years of a^e.
The facts i^ the case as near as the
Chief man 'could ascertain, are i.s
follows-
The family consisted of McOabe and
wifs and three sons, Robert, Frar>k
and Prank O. It see mi that the old
man McCabe had abused his wife and
had whipped her, and he, son Frank
come over to see about it, and Mrs,
McCabe tola him it was the truth.
The old'man waa packiog up the furni-
ture in the houae, pieparatory to leav-
ing the county when Frank arrived
and he thofight tba, li^ would just
give him a good soundthrashing before
he left. Jasper Matheny. the dtceased,
and a brother of Mrs. McCabe went
along to see that the job was well done.
Frank started in to thrash the old man
and at tbat ruoment Frank Q. and
Robert started to interfere, Matheny
stepped up and told the boys not to in-
terfere as the combatenta were pretty
well matched and to let them fight it
out. Robert ^id not seem to like tbia
and he picked up a ti target rifle and
shot Motheny in tbe breast, killing him
almost instantly. The ball struck just
below the heart and It Is supposed
severed tbe lsrgs vein oonnscted with
the heart.
The old man and two sons, Frank 0.
and Robert, came into Hobart yester-
day afternoon and gave themselves up
to Sheriff Hobbe, and are now confined
in the county jail.
Dr. Hallard. oounty coroner, went
down and held an inquest over the
remair s. The verdict of the jury wss
that deceased came to his death from
gun shot wounds inflicted by one Ro-

County Commissioner Ryan visited
Harri-on again last week, and is again
looking after tbe matter ot roads and
bridges, and assures us tbat there wtl|
be a k'n- steel bridge pUced upon th(;
pleM across Rainy Mountain creek
northwest of town. It ia no fault of
tbe county commissioners that we have
not several fine steel bridges in Harrt-
am township where they are most
needed, but the fact is, tbat the inter
lor department has never sllowed one
dollar to be turned over for the use of
the county for any purpose whatever.
Not one of the county employees hav-
ing received one dollar of salary fr^m
tbe government up to the present time.
Th'se matters have hampered the
couniy commissioners to such an ex>
lent tbat they have not been able to do
for ua in the way ot improvementa,
many things which would have been
done long ago bad there been any tuoda
at thair disposal.
Many reports have recently come to
the township board in regard to tbe
bad condition of tbe roads. In justice
to tl>e board we wish to say that every-
thing poaatble to build bridgea and tlx
the roads is beinr done, snd the board
asks tlie reaidtnt* of tlio township to
he patient and to bear in mind that
evety dollar expended in building
bridges and buying material must be
provided by the township board, and
we would reapectfull) ask the settlers
to asaist in euery possible way until we
can establish a system of good roads,
sad it the road overseer calls upon you,
to ssaist him, we hope you will do your
part, even though it may prove some
incoovenicnoe to you. In the mean-
time kindly report all defective roads
aud bad places to Allan W Train, our
towaship trustee, and they will be
remedied as soon aa possible.
