The Curiice bill gives the incor-
porated towns of the Territory the
right to tax railroads and other cor-
poral iona the same as individuals in
the same manner and procedure.
The movement for this reform and
much needed legi lation was inau-
gurated at a meeting of the mayors
of the towns of the Territory at So.
McAlester and is one of the best
piece* of legislation enacted for the
benefit of the towns of the Territory
by thia congress.
There is an important provision in
the late Curtis act to the lot holders
of the Cherokee and Creek nations.
Under the treaties of these nations
all past payments were carried at. a
rate of six percent per an a urn. Un-
der the new act all payments must
be made within sixty days after
they are due and all past payments
are due sixty days from the signing
•f the bill April 3t>, un I a failure to
make such payments the lots revert
to the respective tribes and will be
f4*erti ed and sold una in
