HORSES JUMP FROM
JOYING TRAIN.
Either the trains on the Rock
Island run as slow as the jokers
say they do, or else a miracle has
happened. Saturday night there
was attached to the southbound
Choctaw Northern an emigrant
car containing several head of
horses. They were there all right
when the train left Watonga but
when it arrived in Geary three of
the horses were missincr, and as
the train had not stepped between
the two towns, it is evident that
they jumped out while it was in
motion. Sunday morning the
right-of-way was inspected be-
tween here and Watonga but
neither live nor dead horses were
found. Some art mean enough
to say that the horses got disgust-
ed with the slowness of the train
and thought they could get to
their destination quicker by walk-
ing.
APRON SOCIAL A SUCCESS.
The memberfe of the M. E.
church and their friends held an
old time "apron" social at the
home of A. D. Garlick, one mile
east of Geary last Friday night.
About eighty persons were pres-
ent and all had an enjoyable time
and are anxiously awaiting the
return of a similar occasion.

Benton's Comedians will be at
the opera house in Geary for
three nights, Oct. 7th, 8th and
9th. These shows will be put
on under the auspices of the
Geary Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment and that organization will
receive part of the proceeds. The
fire boys need new equipment
and they have adopted this
method of raising the money.
Benton's Comedians put up the
best shows on the road, so you
will be well entertained if you at-
tend all three nights. Get your
tickets of the girls who are now
selling them. Help the fire de-
partment.
W. J. Tonknison and family
returned yesterday from Wav-
erly, Nebr., where they have
been for the past year. We are
glad to see Mr. Tonknison and
family return and we think they
are also glad to get back. On
their return they stopped in Bea-
ver county and visited his father
and brothers. P. Y. Tonknison
accompanied them to Geary.
W. V. Brann was a pleasant
caller yesterday and gave us a
few ideas along agricultural lines.
Mr. Brann is one of the few
opmistic farmers in this commu-
nity and thinks Oklahoma as
good as the best. He does not
sit down and cry even if he does
not have a bumper crop every
year. His crops are diversified
and he makes money all the time.
He has a fine field of alfalfa
which helps fatten a lot of fine
hogs and this year he is harvest-
ing forty acres of oowpeas which
are making a bountiful yield.
Mr. Brann is not a dry-goods-box
farmer, but farms the soil and
makes it pay all the time.
Gov. Frantz has gone to 8t.
Louis where he will join Presi-
dent Roosevelt and party for a
trip down the Mississippi to New
Orleans.
The Ladies Aid of the Chris-
tian church have a variety of
home*made comforts to sell. Will
also make them to order at any
time. For further information
see Mrs. J. A. Smith.
J. A. Chitwood, proprietor of
the Owl Broom factory, says the
broom corn crop will be very
light this year. Mr. Chitwood's
broom factory is one of the im-
portant industries of Geary. He
employs a large foroe of men and
finds a ready market for the en-
tire output of his factory.
Miss Bessie Truitt, reader and
impersonator, will give an enter-
tainment at the opera house on
the evening of Sept. 30th. The
entertainment will be under the
auspices of the Modern Priscilla
club and will be spiced with vocal
and instrumental music. Pro-
ceeds will be donated for starting
a library fund for Geary. Let
everyone patronize this worthy
cause.
