The News has refrained so
far from taking an active part
in the Capital Question but the
anvent of a speaker from Guth-
rie who made several talks to
our people has brought about
a change in our feelings in the
matter
The spell binder from Guth-
rie hangs heavy on the increase
in the people’s taxes if the Cap-
ital is removed We would like
to know if sooner or later they
won’t have to pay the tax any-
way and if so why not have it
done with
The State does not own the
buildings they are using at
Gurthrie for state purposes and
it appears to us that it would be
a wise plan to build them now
at one of the three places seek-
ing the location
A year from now building
material will have increased 10
to 15 per cent and the State will
be saving the rent that it is
paying and have been paying
these many years
There is no question but that
the Capital was placed at Guth-
rie at first in a way that is
questionable and that town has
no more claim to the State Capi-
tal than has Marietta but to
hear then squawk one not
being posted would think that
they were being absolutely rob-
bed by a bunch of real estate
boosters
We favor placing the Capital
at Oklahoma City foa more rea-
sons than one and will give a
few of them ‘ 1
The chief one is that Oklaho-
ma City is more centerally locat-1
ed has more rail roads and more
hotels to care for the crowds
It is the most modern city in
the United States and to have it
the State Capital give to the
visitors the idea that the whole
state is made up of the same
kind of people and that in itself
will be of great volue to us
Oklahoma City we understand
agrees to donate land easy of
access for all the buildings be-
sides giving the state a large
sum of money We say take
the Oklahoma City bid up quick
We do not fear but that Okla-
homa City will get the plum as
we have never heard of her peo-
ple going after anything yet
that they didn’t get We see
no reason for delaying the mat-
ter and believe that the (pr-iHon
ought to be bottled right low
As to graft-spoil and raise
of taxes there i- nothing in
them Oklahoma City has the
right to ask for the State Capi-
tal and the News hopes that the
people of Love County will
grant their request by voting
for the removal to that place
