Preacher's Offer to Marry Persons
Brought sn Altogether Unlooked-
for Response.
Some of the visiting ministers have
told some good stories about one an-
other during the Laymen's Missionary
Movement convention here, says the
Ban Diego I'nlon. This is one that
was "handed" to Rev. Hugh L. Burle-
son:
A young coupl* came Into his rooms
Just as he was going to begin service
'n the church and asked him to marry
them. He said If they would wait until
after the service he would give them a
public wedding.
After the benediction he announced:
"Now, will those persons wishing to
be married please come forward." It
Is recorded In the story that eleven
women and one man answered to the
call.
An offset to that story is one told by
Dr. Alonzzo R. Petty of a woman who
waa before a Judge asking for a di-
vorce. The Judge leaned over the desk
and said to the woman:
"Madam, how long did you know
this man before you were married?"
"Your honor." she said. "I was ac-
quainted with him for eighteen
months, but I never really knew him
until I asked him for a dollar."

Daily food plays a big part, for unless it supplies
proper rebuilding elements, and is ptoperly digested,
one's mental and physical power is hound to suffer.
Grape-Nuts
the whole wheat and malted barley food, provides all
the rich nutriment of the grains, including their vital
mineral salts—phosphate of potash, etc.—lacking in the
" at which are necessary for balanced ud-
diet of many, but which
keep of body, brain and
necessary for balanced up-
nerves.
Grape-Nuts has a delicate nut-like flavour; is always
ready to serve with cream or milk; is easily digestible;
and yields a wonderful return of health and energy.
II
There's a Reason"
(By OEOROK H. OLOVF.R. Colorado
Agricultural College, Fort Collins, Colo.)
Calves raised on skim milk are
usually runty, pot-bellied, and suffer
Indigestion. Whole cow's milk Is
perfect food for the calf, but skim
milk is not. When the tat Is removed
i substitute Is sometimes made by
adding a handful of flaxseed meal or
'ornmeal. but this sort of fat la not
k full substitute for butterfat.
It Is still a debatable question
whether it paya in the long run to
rob the future cow by stunting the calf
for the sake of Immediate profits. The
practice of takln« the calf Immediately
*way from the cow Is the usual thing
in the dairies and. assuming that It Is
in economical thing to do. the ques-
tion Is how to feed calves on artificial
food and keep them growing properly.
During tbe first few weeks the calf
Is not capable of digesting normally
*ny food save whole cow's milk. If
he must subsist on skim milk, a little
flaxseed meal or commeal had better
be added to the ration. The milk
should always be given warm and
never when it Is frothy. Calves should
never be given enough skim milk to
entirely satisfy their hunger If indi-
gestion develops, they should be kept
on short rations for a day or two. If i
scours develop a little formalin added 1
to the milk, combined with a restrict-
ed diet, will usually control it within
a few days.
