Opportunities Passed
Sometimes, things happen when
we are really not expecting them or
are not ready for them. In this
shape, communities very of:en find
tnemselves. It is in this condition
that opportunites pass by. And,
again the failure to grasp oppor-
tunities as they pass is due at times,
to the sefishr.ess of the citizeus-and
the fear that haunt their minds,
that some one besides themselves
might benefiit should good come
from an enterprise presented. No
town or country ever <(dvanced or
developed to their full worth and
merit when her citizenship could
never see anything but the dollar
'oming in, or was satisfied with ex-
isting conditions or surroundings.
No place within the lids oLtloly
Writ is there a line or verse that ex-
press?* a thought or a command,
that excuses us from our duty to our
tel!ow-man, but on the other hand,
through-out the whole of the Bible
we find the command to do good
to others. No person can shirk his
or her duty by hiding behind the
thought, that what he or she has is
theirs—because it is written, that,
the earth is the Lords and the full-
ness theieof. So if by our greedy
minds and natures we retard any
enterprise that is tor the betterment
of those around u«, we are disobey-
the commands every where laid
down in the Bible. So, w'.ien the
opportunity is presented to us to do
good, let us have in mind the best
and most good of all.
