Many Rejoice
Over The Rain
houfcand* Uejolce Over Thn Rn-

b«n« Of I he Orouth llrok«n
Never in the history of the state
were .so many people made glad as
wjien the glorious rain of Sunday
fell, breaking one of the most seri-
ous drouths, with which Oklahoma
was ever confronted.
For fifteen months, we have had
very little rain, and it is remarkable
how well we have stood the drouth.
1 hat Oklahoma can do with very
• little moisture hasbetn evidenced.
It is noW nearly two years, since
we had sufficient rains, and even
tnen last year we raised a hundred
and fifty millions of agricultural
crops. Needless to say that we have
suffered, wheat, corn and oats have
hem cut short, and other crops have
suffered too, but Oklahoma is a
niost wonderful recuperative state,
old attei the rains of this week
which is but the beginning of what
i* really needed and from appear-
■ nee justifies the hope that the
drouth is really broken, the farmers
will get busy, planting kaflir coin,
milo maize and sugar cane, all of
which it is not too late, to have an
abundance of stock feed for the
winter. W ith continued rains the
pastures will take on new life, all
vegrtn*4«wi 'hat not too dead il]
be revived, and cotton materially
helped.

Distiict Judge L. M. Poe sitting
it Pawnee, 1 uesday overruled the
demurrer of John Emhry of Guthrie,
I nited States district attorney,
that t'ie state courts have no juris-
diction oxer Turkey island in the
\i kansas river neai 0>age, Embry
declaring it to be he property of
the Osage Indians, a portion of their
toriner reservation. Judge Embry
who attended court at Pawnee in
person, ar.d was attorney for other
claimants of the island was given
until July 20 to rile answers jn the
ca e.
The decision of Judge Pot is vir-
tually that the Interior DepariTneut
had no right to allot this island of
•••U.ity acres and woith a half mill,
ion dollars inoil-aud gas, to Larry
No-Legs, the Osage Indian, alleg-
ing the island was not a part of the
Osage Utsei\alion. The decision
of Poe is a victory for the state of
Oklahoma, which also claims the
island on the proposition hat the
Arkansas liver is navigable, and its
bed and islands are therefore state
property. From this decision the
United States will appeal.
The lame case is on the records
of the federal conrf at Guthrie
where. l'uesd iy, judge Cotteral
granted Embry an injunction re-
straining all parties but No-Leg*
from possession ot the island.
